My pick for new Carolina Panthers owner

Jeremy Igo

As to the topic, my first thought on new ownership was that somebody who already had a stake would probably just increase their share to gain a controlling interest.

My only question: How would one of the existing Partners feel about Marty Hurney? They were already part owner when he was brought in. Granted that doesn't mean they approve of him, but it's suspect.

My pick for the Carolina Panthers recently opened majority ownership position:

Current Carolina Panthers minority share holder Tim Belk

Relatively young (60) local guy. Would never move the team. Family has strong ties to the Carolinas.

Already has the Belk Bowl at Bank of America Stadium. Obviously loves football.

Recently retired from Belk. Plenty of free time.

Family is worth billions.

Not suspect at all.  They had no say in hiring decisions.  Their influence on JR and the team was minimal, at best.  They basically only got a few perks along with a nice check periodically.

Then I'm fine with it.

I know Joe Gibbs doesn't have the money to be a majority owner (would probably have enough for his family to have a minority stake) but I'd like to see him be part of the team reorganization. There's nobody I can think of who I would trust more to hire the next GM.

Whether it's Gibbs or not, we definitely need an NFL mind involved.  I don't want some business man that is only concerned with the bottom line to turn us into the Browns...or someone that is bored and wants another toy to play with.  We desperately need someone that can make smart football decisions.

Agreed.

Accorsi is doing it right now for the Giants. New owner could bring him back but I'd prefer Gibbs.

I just wonder how much interest Gibbs would have to be a consultant, and how up to date is he on the current NFL.  If he'd check both of those boxes, he'd be the perfect consultant.

Unknown.

We know he knows football. The rest? Up in the air.

wasnt the investigation launched from a minority owner? do we know it wasnt Belk. dun dun dunnn.

I don’t think that happened. Minority shareholder Erskin Bowles was tapped to lead the investigation but it hasn’t been revealed the investigation was initiated by an owner.
