An offensive playcalling concern

Carolina was 0-3 and Albert Haynesworth was just removed from the game. That was an ideal situation to let this so called running team get a 1st down.

We had struggled in short yardage all game.

I am not saying that I did not want them to go for it. But, seeing as how our OLine was not getting any push, I can understand why Fox did not want to take the risk.

However, I did not have an issue with trying to get them to jump offsides if I were going to punt anyway. We had nothing to lose in that situation.

but one of the main reasons they struggled in short yardage was Albert Haynesworth. That was one of the few opportunites to pound it up the middle and not have to worry about Haynesworth.

Even when Haynesworth was out of the game for a while, our running game had no push. Haynesworth isn't the sole reason they struggled, he's just a contributing factor. Our Interior Oline is just getting owned. While our tackles have suffered from their inability to contain a pass rush, the interior is struggling to open holes, teams like Atlanta and Philly don't have a Haynesworth player, same thing happened in those games.

Besides, the only reasonable playcall on 4th and inches which should have a high success rate is a QB sneak and we haven't seen one of those since Henning was here.

one problem it could be is where davidson is during the game. i like the idea of having the OC on the field with the rest of the guys but i don't think that is the best vantage point.

another could be fox getting in the middle of those decisions instead of letting the OC take care of business. if fox is feeling the heat rise under his seat he could be even more involved, whatever the call was, it wasn't the right one because it didn't get the job done.

Both of those problems are solved by the OC being in the Booth. Its the job of the coordinators to coach there respective areas on the sideline not the OC. His job is to execute his gameplan and that should be done from the booth. I think the OC and the DC should be in the booth if you ask me. Thats the best vantage point and you get the whole picture. Make it alot easier to adjust to what a team dose also. To each his own but if it were my job I would want every advantage I could get.

Good call, but on the other point a lot of times there's not a pocket to step into.

There is sometimes and sometimes not. Jake likes to hang back even when there is one. Also the WRs are def not getting separation cause I mean 5 sec in the pocket should be enough time for someone to get open on short routes.

I am really starting to think the players are starting to take over the team because they don't trust the coaches anymore. It's like they know the coaches won't be here next year, but we (players) will be, so why not try and save this sinking ship while we can.

on the offensive side maybe. but i really think this defense is starting to believe in the meeks plan. they are coming together better each week and you can see obvious improvements in certain players like everette brown.

jake was clearly upset at davidson and you didn't really have to "notice" the hesitation of davidson because the announcers called him out as jake was walking to the sideline.

on another note, his play calling at the goal line was terrible. trying to run straight up the middle when it wasn't working was a wasted effort.

How many times do teams get fancy around the goal line after getting stuffed and bungle things up even worse? The playcalling didn't bother me at all - if anything, it's calling out the o-line. I guarantee you they did not take that failure lightly.

There's been discussion about the playcalling, but I haven't seen one particular aspect that emerged from this Sunday addressed yet. It's not so much about the plays being called in this case as it is the pace at which they're being called. Something that happened, if I remember correctly, in the first half, has me wondering.

There was a timeout called because the play clock had run low, and Delhomme came to the sideline looking hot. The focus of his anger was OC Jeff Davidson. If you read Delhomme's face, it appeared he was upset that the playcall was slow coming in. So slow, in fact, that the offense didn't have time to line up and execute.

That incident got me wondering if this has happened other times this season. If so, it could be a sign that Davidson is having confidence and/or decision making issues of his own.

That said, I haven't gone back and reviewed tape to look for times when Davidson might have been slow to call a play, so I can't say anything for sure. This could be an isolated incident, but to be certain, I plan to watch for this sort of thing in future games.

Hopefully, it is isolated. If not, it's one of those things that all too often happens at the wrong time.

In watching the game on DVR, the announcers said that Jake said that the call was coming too slowly when he called that timeout on the goal line
