Feel bad for Jerry. I really do. But I think it has come down to it. We’ve shown to be an above average franchise but not elite. Always good but not good enough.

Have you read that article? This man has a long history in settlements to people. That article brought a bunch of stuff and quite frankly he sound's like an old slave master

keep an ear out for San Antonio. also keep an eye on the Chargers going BACK to San Diego. that would make moving to LA a breeze.

some of y'all don't realize how breathtakingly fast this team could be out the door.

i will work some connections to see what i can gather in the next few weeks

Jerry Richardson will be controlling the sale, and it's well-known that he has a condition of keeping the team in Charlotte planned for any contract he signs.

NFL relocations have to be approved by other owners and generally happen to teams with financial and attendance issues. The Panthers don't have those.

Also worth remembering that Richardson only owns a 48% interest in the team. It's pretty easy to imagine that one of the other partial owners could simply buy out part or all of his stake.

It seems as though a lot of individuals do not know how a sell of a team works and rightly so as the Panthers have never been up for sale. For those wondering, JR still holds all the cards.

The most recent sale of a team was in fact the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes were sold by Peter Karmanos (co-founder of Compuware Hockey and Gale Force Holdings) to former Santander CEO and current primary TopGolf investor, Tom Dundon.

A couple of things to note about the sale.

1. Richardson the ability to ensure that the team will remain in its current location by who he chooses to sell the team to.  For example, it was thought that a group from Quebec City could pony up the money that Karmanos was looking for and then move the team to Canada. However, Karmanos stated he would sell the team with the intent to keep it in the Carolina's. Richardson has the ability to do the same. Based off his comment about being the Panthers number one fan, I assume he intends to sell to someone who plans to keep the team in the Carolina's.

2. Richardson has the ability to set the price and can raise the price at any time. For example, Karmanos was close to selling the Hurricanes to Chuck Greenberg (former CEO of the Texas Rangers and founder of Greenberg Sports Group). Greenberg was in the process of gathering additional funding from other investors when Karmanos raised the price of the team, a price that Greenberg could no longer afford.

3. Richardson has the ability to remain involved with the team depending on how much of the team he chooses to sell. Unless Richardson is forced out, he can sell just enough of the team to where he is no longer the majority owner. For example, Karmanos sold his majority stake of the Carolina Hurricanes but he still is affiliated with the team as a minority owner. Though Karmanos is not directly involved in personnel decisions, he still has a say in certain business aspects of the Hurricanes.

These are just a couple things to consider when a team is being put up for sale.

It does sound like he's selling all or nearly all of his stake.

But yes , he has control of the sale.
