Sunday Late Games Thread, Week 15 Edition

Now I've seen it all - the folded over piece of paper to give Dallas a crucial first down, then the PI penalty that set up Oakland for the game winning TD to be overruled by a rule I truly hate in the NFL - the touchback rule for fumbles through the end zone.  Wow.

A think Carr just demonstrated why most players keep the ball in the arm that is closest to the sideline when they make those dives. I could be mistaken since NFL's website decides to highlight Lynch yelling at the ref for the call and getting flagged as opposed to the actual play though. It would make sense though, I mean with the ball in that arm, should you fumble it it has a higher chance of going out before the endzone instead of out of it than if you had it in the other arm. In the end though Carr just doesn't have the hand strength that Cam, JStew, and a lot of other players have that make those dives and it showed quite clearly with that touch back (I hate that rule btw since I fail to see why the ball should be rewarded to the other team).

people are going crazy about that folded piece of paper 4th down conversion, this is fugin hilarious

I can't say I blame them. Every review they showed of it seemed like you could see space between the pole and the ball and thus no 1st down. I'd have been pissed if it happened against us.

I missed that. What happened?

Dak Prescott did a QB sneak on 4th down. They had to bring out the chains to measure it, it was really hard to tell just by looking at it if the ball had crossed the marker (they looked at it for quite a long time). Finally ,  a ref brings out a folded index card or folded piece of paper, inserts it in between the ball and the marker. I guess this let him use the edge of the paper to touch the point where the ball and the marker met, thus determining it was a 1st down.

Howeever on TV the camera is way too zoomed out and its not clear to our naked eyes as viewers if the card simply went through the space between the ball and the marker, or if it actually rubbed through the ball and marker connection point. Just very controversial and the ref probably shouldve just made a judgement call before messing with the  paper. Just eyeballing it I wouldve said it was just barely short by a millimeter.
