Charlotte’s GDP is somewhere around 20th. San Antonio is in the mid 30s.

Charlotte is in the center of multiple media markets between DC and Atlanta - it encompasses three states.

The Panthers currently have the 6th largest media market in the league behind only: NY, Oak/SF, Chicago, NE, and Philly. It’s bigger than Dallas and Houston...the panthers aren’t going anywhere.

One day an owner will demand a new stadium. If Charlotte says no then the panthers could be gone pretty quick. It has happened over and over and recently. Not sure why you guys think Charlotte is magical.

The NFL just moved a team from a massive media market to a tiny one.

The owners would approve a move in a heartbeat.

Is there any other teams in this 17 million plus market to fill that void? In Cali there is. In Carolina there is not. There is a difference. Again it would be a mistake on the NFL's part.

Not a team in St.Louis either.

You aren't paying attention to what is literally happening. If a city plays hardball over owners demands they will move and the owners wouldn't think twice about approving it.

You think owners give a crap about alienating the Carolinas when they could open up say all of Mexico?

This

In addition, as far as a "market" and $$$

We do more ticket sales then half of the league.  The bank is more packed then half the stadiums in the league (didnt think id ever say that 10 years ago)

As far as jersey $ales$ and nfl gear shirts etc.  There are Plenty of markets that do far worse.  Example, ive lived down in the Miami area for the last 7 years.  Last 5 years, ive seen 100 times the nfl gear people wearing, on their cars, or just have in general in just Charlotte than in florida from Orlando to the bottom key of key west.  Heck even the media sponsorship.  The ammount of tv commercial media coverage etc iv seen when ive gone to the Carolinas is about as much as the Dolphins,Heat, and Florida Panthers combined on all the florida networks

The market from raleigh-charlotte-columbia NC/SC region is one of the bigger sports markets out there in the country.

The NFL is just now realizing how disastrous it was to move two poorly supported teams to LA, but would move the Panthers, who sell out every home game even in during the bad years? Not happening. The NBA already made that mistake.

You don't understand how the NFL works. The move to LA is great for the NFL. It is only disastrous to the fans in Sand Diego and St. Louis.

In my world, reality, not selling out a 30,000 seat soccer stadium is pretty disastrous for the Chargers and the NFL. How in the sweet, sweet fug are we comparing fan support to an owner's misconduct in the first place?

The majority owner of the panthers is being investigated. The investigation was initiated by the panthers. The investigation is being overseen by a minority owner of the panthers.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Rivera hires his assistants.  Head coach is really the only coaching staff position where Richardson participates directly in the hiring process.

Players?  Obviously a significant portion of NFL players are non-white, so hard to imagine that.

I did decide to do a quick little exercise though...

Here's a link to the Panthers media guide (click).  It's the only place online you can really find a comprehensive list of people within the organization. I'd direct your attention to the pages that show the ownership group and the front office staff.  Skim those pics and tell me what you see.

Outside of Don Gregory, you might notice a trend regarding people in power positions.  Regarding Gregory himself, it's also worth noting that his role was scaled back this year, similar to how Gettleman did his last year with the Giants.

With all that said, could it be something sexual?  Sure it could.  Remember the way he talked to Morgan Fogarty a few years back?  Lotta people found that creepy. Lord knows he wouldn't be the first guy whose inhibitions and internal filters started slipping away as he got older.  It happens, a lot. My gut says it's non-sexual, but my gut also says it can handle spicy taco sauce so who knows?  It's all just speculation at this point.

There are a couple of things I am pretty sure of, though.  One, this is not "controversy of the week".  It has the potential to be a very big deal with long term effects. Two, Richardson had already stated that if the team were sold after his passing, there are legal arrangements in place to keep the team in the Carolinas. So if the sale of the team is ultimately forced, I'm pretty sure the negotiated terms of that owner's contract will include language to that effect.

For whatever you think of Jerry Richardson as a "football guy" (and I don't exactly think much of him on that front) this is not the kind of thing I would wish on anyone.

But of course, if he actually did whatever someone is accusing him if, then he deserves whatever happens to him.

how is it no one else pie'd you? that was the best response to this ive seen so far.

So the NFL just relocated three teams in three years but all of a sudden there are no cities left in the world that would entertain a team.

Makes sense.

I get what youre saying but the NFL wanted two teams in LA and nothing was going to stop them. They want that experiment to work come hell or high water.

sure they did. They moved a disgruntled team in a big market competing with another legacy team for market share to a small market with no competition. as a business move, that made perfect sense for the NFL. plus the market Oakland moved to may be small, but its super high-profile. thats easy dollars to businessmen.

truth be told, anyone who thinks the Panthers would never move is lying to themselves. but by the same token, anyone who thinks the Panthers would leave if Richardson died or stepped down is also lying to themselves. the man has legal stuff in place to prevent the team moving upon sale. once its sold and time passes though (probably a decade or two), the new owner(s) could probably work around Richardson's legal protections if they really wanted to move the team.
