Who said anything about sexual assault?

There were several posters in the thread about NFL Network analysts sexually harassing a female employee that openly questioned the claim (despite supporting evidence). These same individuals I see are also saying to give JR the benefit of the doubt.

I'm all for due process, but I'm also all for common sense and decency.

I’d agree that that seems hypocritical. But I don’t want to mix sexual harassment allegations with what’s going on here. Very different scenarios that should be treated completely different. Unless word comes out that JR was harassing women (which I really cannot wrap my mind around right now) this is an extremely different accusation. Not saying it doesn’t warrant an investigation, just that it’s not going to turn the owner into a villain one way or the other.

Common sense and decency IS due process.

If you are, you would logically conclude waiting out and seeing what happens is the best option instead of baseless clims with no evidence.

We don’t know what’s going on, but to accuse him already of sexual harassment and attack posters for defending JR shows you lack what you say you are for.

Wait and see what plays out. From JR’s history, it’s a near certainty it’s not sexual harassment or such. But rather than assume, let’s wait and see what happens before crucifying him.

Make sure you do this in all situations, and don’t do it just because the owner of your favorite team is being accused.

That would confuse the hell out of me given JR's love for Smith and who our QB and HC are.

Rivera hires his assistants.  Head coach is really the only coaching staff position where Richardson participates directly in the hiring process.

Players?  Obviously a significant portion of NFL players are non-white, so hard to imagine that.

I did decide to do a quick little exercise though...

Here's a link to the Panthers media guide (click).  It's the only place online you can really find a comprehensive list of people within the organization. I'd direct your attention to the pages that show the ownership group and the front office staff.  Skim those pics and tell me what you see.

Outside of Don Gregory, you might notice a trend regarding people in power positions.  Regarding Gregory himself, it's also worth noting that his role was scaled back this year, similar to how Gettleman did his last year with the Giants.

With all that said, could it be something sexual?  Sure it could.  Remember the way he talked to Morgan Fogarty a few years back?  Lotta people found that creepy. Lord knows he wouldn't be the first guy whose inhibitions and internal filters started slipping away as he got older.  It happens, a lot. My gut says it's non-sexual, but my gut also says it can handle spicy taco sauce so who knows?  It's all just speculation at this point.

There are a couple of things I am pretty sure of, though.  One, this is not "controversy of the week".  It has the potential to be a very big deal with long term effects. Two, Richardson had already stated that if the team were sold after his passing, there are legal arrangements in place to keep the team in the Carolinas. So if the sale of the team is ultimately forced, I'm pretty sure the negotiated terms of that owner's contract will include language to that effect.

For whatever you think of Jerry Richardson as a "football guy" (and I don't exactly think much of him on that front) this is not the kind of thing I would wish on anyone.

But of course, if he actually did whatever someone is accusing him of, then he deserves whatever happens to him.
