Hypothetical: You're The Panthers GM And Richardson Swears He Won't Intervene With One Move Of Your Choosing. You Have A First Round Pick...

You're sitting in your office window open. The air is perfect and crisp; its delicate breezes lapping the hairs of your skin from an ajar window. You lean back gingerly in your office chair, drooping away all the burdens of hard work you've completed so far. The computer in front dims off to a standstill, as if it were also unwinding from a tiresome work day.

As the feathers of sleep lift and send you into world of bliss, the phone suddenly blasts. As if a gunshot just rang out, you immediately spring right back up with heart beating a deafening tune as the shock of the sudden ring reverberates throughout your body. With perspiration of surprise pouring down your hands, you gingerly reach out and pick the phone up.

"Hello?" You ask quizzically, hand shaking from the suddenness of the event, "Who's this?"

"Oh hey there! It's me John Dorsey!" The voice replied, to which you immediately identify as the Browns new GM, "Hope I'm not bothering you right now."

"Oh don't worry, I'm always open anytime," you reply back with a lie, with the reality of annoyance painting a frown on your face, "So, what can I do for you today?"

"So, as you know, I have this wide receiver named Josh Gordon on this roster. I'll have you know he's one of the best in the NFL. However, I am willing to let such a prized talent go for a first rounder in this year's draft," Dorsey replies with an enticing offer.

"After all, you're the first guy I've asked so far. I think you guys would hit it off well, and it'd certainly be a win-win situation. You get a top tier receiver just for the price of your first rounder."

You pause for a moment, considering what just transpired. You already know Josh Gordon could be exactly what this franchise was looking for - a bonafide true WR1 that can even compete with Julio Jones as the best in the NFC South. However, you also know his past trouble with drugs, and how all it would take is one mishap for him to pack his bags out of the league for good.

Even so, you also recall a conversation you had with Jerry Richardson not too long ago. While you do consider the possibility of his head not being there, you still understand he made a promise to you that you can hold against him no matter what.

"One move. One move this off-season that you can do without any protest nor intervention by me, I swear, no matter who or what the player or situation is."

Soon, you make your decision. With a smile of understand and a face bursting with confidence, you get ready to make your reply.

"Alright Dorsey, I will ---"

And thus is where the narrative ends.

You decide the fate. Will you take the offer, or will you decline? Or perhaps will you even try to bargain?

(This is merely for fun. Would love to hear what you guys think.)

Not a chance in hell. Stupid to risk a 1st round pick on an idiot like him. He's easily the highest risk player in the league. He's been suspended 3 or 4 different times and each time claimed it wouldn't happen again. I hope for the best with him and he may have his head on straight now but it'll take multiple years before he earns any trust.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
