I've always liked Stew, but honestly he isn't even the best/most talented former Oregon RB of the last decade. That would be Steven Jackson.

Oregon St, right? Dude was a hoss. Easily better than Stew.

Also, related to Jackson, anyone ever see that ESPN body issue with him? The guy was a brick poohouse.

that was 1 play where theres no one in front of him after he breaks the LoS. Anyone can pick up alot of speed if that have that much of a head start and they have 10-15 yards to get in stride and turn on the jets.

I'm talking about speed within 10 yards of the LoS and near the beginning of plays, like right after he gets the ball. Initial explosiveness.

He lost of his top end speed & sudden burst.

You can see the drop from 08 to now like day & night.

It's crazy how one week has changed this place.  We beat an overrated Vikings team, and now Aaron Rodgers has no chance, and Jonathan Stewart is still incredibly fast.  But, just last week we were trash and didn't have a chance against the Vikings.  I just can't with this place sometimes.  Just SMH.

Right? I specifically remember people saying we would "realistically finish the season 1-3" and saying our only chance in hell was for the Saints to beat the Falcons. Now we should be 7 point favorites over Green Bay with Arod. Half this forum is made up of fair weather NFL analyst wannabes

Quickness and initial burst are a lot more important than pure straight line speed for a RB. Those are the areas where Stew seems to have lost a step or two. He still looks good once he gets rolling, it just takes him longer to get rolling.

Sorry man, numerous times the hole has been there and Stew has just been a step slow getting there. At this stage in his career he needs holes you could drive a truck through.

There is a reason folks/purists hate the shotgun. The RB has no forward momentum when he receives the ball. Yet, because Stewy receives what? 90% of his carries from the shotgun. He has no burst?

We are a READ OPTION Offense. Emphasis on the READ. We are not a quick hit, FB lead Offense. Where the RB gets a head of steam up before he gets the hand off.

Since the KB trade. Both Stewy, and CmC are averaging right at 5ypc, with Stewy averaging 75 yards per game. Which, (For those of you who hate math.) equates to about a 12,000 yard season.  Cam is completing over 60% of his passes. And we went from scoring 20+, to 28+ points per game.

We seem to be right in the thick of things. All while trending upwards on Offense. And as of right now? Stewy is a big part of that.

Well, just wanted to go take a trip back to when we drafted Jonathan Stewart and remind everyone just how crazy of a prospect he was.

If he were to go to the draft from last year, he'd make Fournette look like Trent Richardson in comparison. His measurables were downright non-human, and his college tape crazy. Likely could be considered a first ballot HoF back had he not split carries and not been injured so much during the duration of his career.

To add on, he had incredible tape with his time on Oregon. Just a crazy good runningback.

While Stewart has been largely up and down this season for a variety of reasons, it's still good to have a bit of an appreciation reminder for what J-Stew's done for us. Has been a large part of our rushing success during his time with us thus far.

Idk Stewart was of the most physical freaks at RB ive ever seen.  If he never had the foot issues

Dude ran a 4.48 on a bad foot at the combine at 235.  Think he surgery shortly after the combine.  Rumored that he was running a 4.35 before the injury

I tell you what, he can still get up high in the air. That jump in the end zone and there’s been a few times where he and the younger CMC have jumped over defenders. He’s still a beast physically

Agree. He is still a freak of nature even for NFL standards.

I’m sure he’s lost a little bit but it may seem exaggerated a little because of our offensive struggles.

Just my opinion (I am biased because he’s one of my favs) Jstew at 75% prime is still better than most in the league. IQ, hands, grind, heart, attitude, second effort ... etc. Total package.

Stew is definitely one of the best talents to come out at RB in a long time.

Hes perfectly built to play RB. Hopefully he’ll catch a second wind and have a Fred Taylor esque career.

Have to remember Deangelo was equally talented in his prime. He was special too. Not not nearly as tough as Stew though.

I'm defintely doing a thread after the season's over asking how long everyone thinks stew will be continue playing here  . We apparently only have just over 4 mil in cap space and Stew has a cap hit of over 6 mil this season, and has  cap hit of over 5 mil next season, looks like hes signed through 2018.

So going into the 2019 season hed be 32

Damn Greg and TD have respective Cap hits of over 10 mil, jesus.

The numbers don't lie. Jackson has nearly 50% more rushing yards. Nearly triple the receiving yards. Eight straight 1000+ yard seasons.

"Talent" is arbitrary. Production is real.

I actually feel the opposite from the majority in this thread. I think Stew is vastly overrated by most Panthers fans. Anyone who thinks he's up there with the likes of Adrian Peterson, Le'Veon Bell, Ezekiel Elliott, etc. is just delusional. At his best he was a borderline top 5 NFL RB. He was always damn good when healthy, but to hear some Panthers fans talk you'd think he was Walter Peyton or Barry Sanders

I’ve seen 25 million under cap on over the cap and 19 million under on http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/cap/2018/

not sure what the truth is, but its not much.

i would love to have Stewart back, knowing Hurney it will be some kind of restructuring.
