Our Wildcat Is Wack

it was whack when they first ran it against atlanta a few seasons ago.

it only worked because carolina has always been able to run well against them.

I disagree, when Henning was here, for some reason, his scheme worked. The direct snaps to DWill were the start of the wildcat before the league went crazy with it. Miami allowed Henning to expand it and then it caught like wildfire.

IIRC, when Henning ran it with DWill, ATL couldn't stop it. We weren't busting off 50 yards a carry, but we were probably averaging 5 ypc. We ate up the clock and kept it out of Weinke's hands, which was a good thing.

Davidson's version of the wildcat has been awful. No motion, no deception, no pulling OLs (at least not successfully), nothing. Either negative, none, or little yards at all. He needs to go back to the drawing board or understudy at Florida or somewhere in the offseason, b/c his playcalling and plays SUCK.

Imagine a fake or a give to SS in motion?

Oh. Before the game ESPN was showing old wildcat hightlights and one included SS while Henning was here.

From the wildcat DeA took the snap and ran right then flipped it to SS going the other way for about 15 yds or so.

They need to do that more and more.

I'm not saying we cant pass it out of the formation. We just don't. And the Dolphins don't need to. "If it aint broke don't fix". And they have much better talent for it also. If we wanted to use it we should have gotten Vick. I'm not impressed with his performance with Phili but he was by far the best candiate (besides White) this off-season.

True. I really don't think the Panthers need to use it at all.

We should convert that creativity into the jumbo package. We usually get big plays outta that formation. Both Hov and Tony back there, Dwill can just pick his lane. We also should let Jake play in the Gun a lot more. He seems to more comfortable not having to drop back as it gives him more time to read the field.

And go below whatever vanilla is? nah

Well, if it's not working and only making the team lose yards and downs...

To be honest I'm just not a big fan of the Wildcat (this is also in response to pstall). I mean, it works for the Dolphins, but that's the only team that's impressed me with it.

The reason it is impressive there is Dan Henning is a very gifted O coordinator. He adapted the Wildcat to the NFL and the Dolphins basically let him build his whole O around it. They committed to it fully and completely. We never did when he was here........ cough.FOX.cough

We have plenty of talent for the Wildcat and good personnel for it.

Runners/Throwers= DWill, Stewart, Goodson, Sutton, Smitty, Moore

Blockers= King, Rosario

These guys are perfect for the Wildcat. Smitty has thrown in the past. I remember the throw he made to Moose in the playoffs against the Rams. Moore ran some Wildcat type plays with Wake Forest in college as a RB/WR. King and Rosario are perfect for the scheme. And DWill, Stewart, and Goodson are beasts... Davidson is just an idiot.

It's a different LOOK, not your base. The talent level is so even in the NFL and the speed is so similar that you have to out scheme and execute the other guy.

Mano e mano to a degree, but maximizing your talent and masking your weakness goes along way.

I don't like the mildcat either if you just snap it and it's a run left or right.

I have coached enough in sports to know that when you are not superior you have to make the other team play your way/style to increase your odds of winning.

people remember the highlights of the game, but not the game itself.

foster and williams averaged 3.7 ypc. it was an ugly game. it's the ugly ground pounding don't give up on the run no matter what game that carolina has always been good at, but hasn't played on a regular basis since 2004.

there was nothing fancy with the formation then, just like now. there were no motions, deceptions, or pulling. it was just direct snaps to williams with atlanta doing what they always do against carolina when they run...next to nothing.

the same wildcat crap was pulled against the saints the very next game and it got stuffed.
