CMC Production The Last 2 Games

Younger. Faster. Willing to learn. Cheaper (Until extension)

People forget when you draft a player - you are their first exposure to team culture in the NFL. It is much easier to get by in to the team from a rookie, rather than a free agent.

Also:

Woodhead - 0 TDs 62 Total yards

Burkhead - 3 Tds 268 Totals yards

Those are very mediocre numbers compared to the rook.

Cheaper? He’s already got a cap hit that is as much as vet 3rd down backs make. And this is his cheap year. And Woodhead has been hurt all year. Butkhead has 448 total yards and 6TD in 8 games. About the same as CMC. Pick any of them. Reddick? White? Bottom line is he was an awful VALUE at 8. Until he lines up and takes 15-20 carries as our lead back, he won’t. Can he? I don’t know. But everything I’ve seen(not stats) says he can’t.

None of this means that he is a bust in any way. He was over-valued But is still a good ball player and can help this team. There is a huge difference in saying he wasn’t worth a top ten pick and saying he is a bust. People can’t seem to come to grips with this.

Hmm so what people are saying is

His production right now is best for our offense

no, just saying that people go over board nitpicking things sometimes.   Like this post, was specifically looking at the last 2 games.   The fact we had abnormal rushing production this week.....obviously would limit him.  I mean, if Ingram has a huge day for the Saints.....Kamara likely won't.

There are lots of reasons CMC doesn't have big numbers.  Most of those have to do with things that aren't CMC

We are paying CMC 3.1million this year.  I was incorrect about burkhead, I left out his receiving yards. Apologies.

By your logic, woodhead would have been a wasted FA signing. If you want to use the excuse "he has been hurt all year" doesn't change the fact he has done nothing this year. Now if you are telling me that we could draft a kid at #8 and pay him less than 4mil per season and he would be good for a 1000 yards..... What kind of GM would say no to that?

Lastly, we are at a point where the value of a player isn't where he was drafted, but whether or not he was productive. Only 21% of total 1st round picks make it, and well CMC is part of that 21% so far.

He isn't the first "athlete" to go in the top ten and he isn't the last.

Make it? What are you talking about?

Next season I would like to see cmc get at least 20 touches a game and Stewart becoming a short yardage back

I'm not sure why the staff would switch it up if Stew keeps running well down the stretch. I'm betting Stews eventually going to have an injury next season and that'll force CMC to be the starter at some point.

What'll really be telling is if we dont draft another RB in 2018. That means the staff likes the backs they have and probably is a good sign they have some faith in McCaffrey or CAP being the future there.

I really wonder if McCaffrey will put on about 10 lbs of muscle in the offseason, I think it could help him immensly in being able to use a little more power and bounce off some tackles. Even Kareem Hunt is 216 , its only about 10 lbs difference. McCaffrey was 205 when he weighed it for the Panthers when the season started.

Yes he should add some weight. I think he could handle 20 touches at 212-215

Combined stats 14 carries - 51 yards, 8 catches - 51 yards, 1 TD

Is this a concern heading into the playoffs? I'm re-watching the game and man does Shula like overloading one side and it's not freeing(if that's a word) CMC up. It's too much traffic and I'm talking passing game here. We need to spread the offense out evenly. 2 WR on each side. They could back to feeding him the ball a lot like San Fran game, would that work?

First of all over shifting the line was what broke Stewart free on the long run. The goal is to put more blockers than they can pick up and seal the backside to avoid tackling from behind. As for the 3 receivers on one side and the single guy on the other, that creates mismatches in the run and pass game. The fact is that CMC has to work harder because defenses are gameplanning him. Look at Olsen yesterday, he didn't do anything but he was often covered and doubled. It isn't a poor scheme but simply taking what the defense is giving you. They gameplanned to take Olsen and CMC out of the game which freed up Byrd and Funchess and allowed  Cam to have some success running with less than 8 in the box.
