Vernon Butler

Henry is light years ahead of Dickson in blocking and contributing to his offense. TEs are usually big.  Henry should have been the pick!  Butler was a luxury pick pure and simple, and our rotation would have survived successfully without him.

One could argue a 2nd TE when we already had a top 3 TE in the league would have also been a 'luxury' pick I wager. DT is a much more valuable position than TE in the NFL though. And if KK or Star don't stay with us long, we'll be glad to have Butler no doubt

Why do people say this? KK was an impact player from the word go.

He did more in his rookie year than Vernon has done since he was drafted.

Not dogging vernon at all, but my lord some of you have tortured recollections.

KK played 16 games his rookie season and had 1.5 sacks but had 18 tackles.  Year 2 KK picked up 3.5 sacks in 16 games.   It wasnt until year 3 where he took off 11 sacks and 4 pass deflections.

Butler played 10 games due to injuries and had the same sack total of 1.5 but only had  5 tackles.  He's also missed a big chunk of this season with injuries.

Kk was about as impactful his rookie season as Butler in the games he played his rookie season.  Year 2 he picked it up some. But at the same point as now in year 2, KK already had 10 more games under his belt than Butler due to injureis. In addition in the game played, KK didnt have much infront of him to compete for meaniful snaps his first 2 seasons.  Butler has Kk and Star infront of him, so even in the healthy games.  He's not getting the snaps KK was getting.

Im not saying he is going to be a all-pro like Kk but but it pretty rediculous to bust his balls for not being a all everything considering he is not TOO far behind what Kk was at the same time while missing half his games due to injuries while Kk played every game gaining more and more experience

I find myself upset at Vernon more than I should. It's not his fault he was picked 31st and we have some absolute studs at DL. It just upsets me that we picked a 2nd string DT over an impact player like Hunter Henry/Sterling Shepherd/Michael Thomas. I think those guys would have made us an overall better team.

But at the same time, the way KK's stock was soaring.  And there was no guaranteed KK would be resigned long term in a team built around the defensive front 7

Had we not drafted him and couldnt resign KK, how would people feel had we picked up Henry (and remember its not guaranteed his impact with the way Shula uses #2TE) then left the DL with a huge hole and one injury to Star from the DL being back to the FUA days.  We are concerned with Lukes future with the concussions, imagine the feeling of seeing take blow after blow because that interior DL cant keep the blockers attention and off him

It totally went past me that we still didn't lock KK down at the time. I think the 2016 draft sucked as a whole, though. There are only 3 pro bowlers from it thus far, the studs in Dallas and Tyreek Hill.

Oh. You're judging this exclusively by sacks. That's....silly .

No one on this board criticizes vernon butler. You are confusing this place with somewhere else.
