True.  If we we're up 7or8 then I agree wholeheartedly.

But we wanted then to take time and get clock to under 3 min.  Instead of letting them get anscore with 5 min lwft

Yeah, It is a fluid situation. I really liked how we played deep but sent some pressure. Disruptive.

And i dont want to make it its own thread so people don't think i'm being negative, bc believe me, I'm super stoked for this win, but it has been a concern...  Luke has not looked good for a few weeks now.  I've never seen him take so many bad angles and missing so many tackles, EVER.  Him missing on Thielen is part of why the game was even that close, and it shouldnt have been.  I hope it's not lingering effects from the concussions.

I've noticed the past three games he has been out of position more than you would expect him to be.

I read somewhere that part of it is our DL being handled more easily and him having to try to do too much. Also opposing OL are more easily getting to 2nd level.

But even so, he has been out of position more than I have seen or expected.

Playing soft was not the issue.  Allowing 8-10 yard passes go for 40 yards after the catch is.

While I can't argue with you, the best way to prevent that is to keep them from completing the pass in the first place. Any time you play prevent d, you're 1 missed tackle from a TD.

Yea I'm tired of us shutting down either of our units with extreme soft def or stupid up the gut runs and punts...but it always seems like they learn the lesson then go back to the old way until we loose a game because of it! Cover 3 press is soft enough and our offense should continue its game plan until its impossible for a comeback before changing it!

That is how we should play defense. We harassed all game, get good lead. Then go soft, nearly lose. Cam saves us and we play aggressive D to finish out.

Hopefully they learned something today.

Actually, they were playing just as soft as the previous two drives. They were blitzing, but everybody including the linebackers were playing extremely soft. The difference was, the Panthers offense actually gave the defense a rest for the first time since the 3rd quarter.  It is amazing how much better a defense is when the offense can actually let our defense rest.

But I'm sure this board will have a hundred threads this weak about how aggressive they were at the end...

I disagree. IIRC, the previous two drives we only rushed four, while on the last drive we were blitzing LB's.

Also when playing soft in previous games we dropped everyone with no blitz.

Tackling was still an issue today. We need to do the fundamentals before thinking of the picks, the highlight hits etc...

Same problem. Our offense just absolutely wasted a series and let a tired defense on the field. Like we run the ball in the most stupid times and not a apparently needed times.

Talk about high expectations.  Luke finished  the game with 14 tackles (8 solo), and a sack and some of you feel like he had an off day.

Most LBs would be thrilled to have a stat line like that. Sometimes I think we take his greatness for granted here.

I noticed he missed a couple of tackles but he was still a force today. I agree with the poster that said sometimes it looks like he trying to do too much. But, I do think he could also be playing just a bit tentatively at times (and I can't blame him) to avoid another concussion this season.
