Why didn't we draft this guy?

We draft defense with our top picks most of the time in franchise history and we finally draft some offense and now this response? hahahah

This team would be in great position with Norman out there and Bradberry and having spent the other picks on offense....also Hunter Henry over Butler....with literally like 2 proper moves this team could be scary on both sides of the ball....those 2 big mistakes had/have an avalanche effect.

Nah man your wrong the best corner in the division is Bradberry, stop over hyping Lattimore.

Hell I'll put money on it that if Panthers play Saints in the playoffs Bradberry will be the better CB of the two in the match up.

8-4 with 3/4 home games left. This with 3 draft picks on IR and Olsen/Kalil our for half of the season. Olsen and Kalil are back and we are set to make a run. Imagine next year when we get Elder, Samuel, and Hall back with a year studying our system/in the weight room, plus whoever else we draft.  The future and present is good my friends!

The rest of the NFL is horrified I'm sure. "NOT ELDER!....AND.....HALL?" how they gonna honestly handle that.....

Just like our team is really looking out for those random 5th rounders on other teams, tremblin in me boots.

Hall was a 3rd round pick... we lost our 2nd and 3rd round pick for the rest of the season. I know Elder was a 5th, but several people on here liked what they saw from him in practice. He will provide some depth at the CB position (which we need) and maybe eventually take over for Captain. I don’t care if other teams are scared or not, we play better when they underestimate us.

Point is every team can say that. We got beat by the Saints with their 1st and 2nd string DBs out in the first game and they are still injured in the 2nd game and beat us. 99.9% of observations from our practice don't come anywhere close to live production, duh our defense owns our offense, in a real game they play against a real OL/WR.

He is not, but Lattimore is already the best CB in our division. Bradberry has been off a few games recently, but he will turn it on during this 3 home game stretch.

I'm not hyping him up tho, he's changing the way teams attack the saints when he' on the field.

Not knocking Bradberry at all but it is what it is. And isn't marshon on pace to have a better rookie season then Bradberry, Ramsey, and Peters?

I think coaches and GMs can be guilty of that at times.  Some of it might not be admitting failure but more of just being greedy.  If you convince yourself that Worley had good moments and could possible continue to improve you can more easily justify not taking Lattimore.  You stand the chance of getting 2 players instead of one.

Very true, this place would have had a fit.  I think the front office started to think like the Huddle. 

Personally I thought drafting CMC felt like a short term need pick.  If you were determined to go offense in the first round you can understand why they picked him.  Look at the other 1st round offensive players, I'm not convinced any of them would have a much greater impact on the offense in the short term(this year).

Howard, Njoku, Engram - with Olsen here their contribution would have been minimized.  There is no way to predict Olsen getting hurt and you don't draft expecting people to get hurt.

Bolles and Ramczyk - OTs usually take some time to develop and we just spent a fortune on one.  At that point you are somewhat pot committed to playing him.

Before someone says "I wanted Fournette" he was drafted before us.  Under that logic I'm going to fault the team for not drafting Clowney a few fears ago.

I'll admit I was guilty of the "need to help Cam" mindset.  I was hoping Thomas or Adams would fall but once they didn't I was ok with the pick and understood why we did.  If anything I thought he might force the coaches to "evolve", which might be more of a commit on what I think of the coaches and not so much CMC.  The range that we picked at really didn't line up with our needs or wants.  If we were determined to take offense I wish we would have traded down until one of CMC, Ross, Howard, or Njoku were left.

Normally I'm not a fan of taking RBs in the first round or situational players, both of which we have been guilty of the past three years.  That along with our tendency to trade up is probably my biggest complaint about DG.  You have to factor in the pay scale when looking at first rounders.  From an asset allocation standpoint certain positon make more sense.  Look at the Cowboys and Jags in 2016, a top 5 CB (Ramsey) is worth more then a top 5 RB (Elliot) if you look at the replacement cost of those positions considering they are on a fixed rooked pay scale.

Looking back if we weren't trading down Lattimore made a lot of sense.  Maybe they did have more injury concerns or maybe they chase "need" more then they admit.

We wouldve been hot trash this season with no McCaffrey and starting KB, Funchess and assuming Greg still went down? We wouldve been fuged on offense. McCaffrey leads the team in yards from scrimmage, tied for the most total touchdowns, and got a fugton of 1st downs. 

Not getting McCaffrey wouldve basically put as in the 2016 offense, minus ted ginn

All these people who claim Cam is elite also want him to have all these weapons and an elite defense to be effective.

For all we know Lattimore couldve gone down with a season ending injury in week 1 if he came here, or had various injuries during the season that he coulda missed time, and possible he wouldnt have performed as well in our scheme. Who knows. I think our defense couldve been better with this pic but our offense woulda been much worse.
