What QB do you like...

Thats one reason I don't want to pick one in the 2nd. The best QB in recent history to be picked in the 2nd that I consider Elite is Brees and he was picked 32nd overall which the next year would have been a 1st round pick (Texans). I see this Draft as a very deep draft but IMHO its quality is suspect. Every QB in the top 5 by most draft pundits I can punch huge holes in there game. There is no Peyton Manning or Matt Ryan in this draft that is IMO deserving of a 1st round grade.

IDT you can draft players based on trends like this one. Just when you start to accept that "2nd round QBs don't succeed" an All-Pro is going to fall in your lap.

This is a deep draft of QBs that are all project type guys. The best 5 QBs in this draft IMO all have the skills needed to succeed but just have to be put in a good position.

If McCoy or Mallett fall to us at the top of the 2nd round then I think we'd be stupid not to pick one of them. However, you never know what kind of trade we are going to pull. If Locker or Bradford are falling to the bottom of the second round then I wouldn't be surprised if management traded up to the bottom of the first for one of them.

Heck...I would bet a lot of teams would be willing to trade a mid 20s pick for Julius Peppers.

Speaking of Peppers, Id rather draft Austen Lane (DE Murray State freak of nature) in the 2nd then any QB. I know I might be crazy but as you say they are all projects I would rather get one later and get a Julius Peppers type DE (once in a decade type of athlete). The kid is scary good.

Yeah, I really need to stop posting drunk. He weighed 290. Lane is not as muscular and has slightly less straight line speed but I think he has better pass rushing technique. I think he could easily put on 15 or 20 pounds which he will need to become an every down football player. He is not as complete as pep coming out but I think he has that kind of athletic ability. Big sleeper.

locker, clausen and likely bradford wont drop to the bottom of the 1st (i am guessing thats what you ment). the rams need a qb and will take one 1. the skins could, the 49ers could if one slips (alex smith wasnt the answer and still isnt), seattle would love one of them (esp locker) to fall into their lap. too many teams to pass on the top 3 qbs. these are 3 i can see coming in and being able to start day 1. now bradford could slip, but needs locker, clausen and mallett to all come out to start tumbling. he might just might fall into the 20s if the draft works out right ( a team needing a qb falls in love with mallett). then you might be right. bradford would work. right now, i think he is top 20.

people rag clausen all the time, but the light turned on sometime last year and has stayed on. he runs a pro system in college. he has the physical tools. wouldnt mind trying to bring him in esp if we get his old coach to run the offense. now i think he doesnt have the upside of some of the others in the draft, but he might be 1 of the most read due to the pro system he ran, and how well he ran it. he is out of reach for us unless someone wants peppers for their top 5 pick :(

locker, no shot at him.

now mallett is super scary, elite looking qb. physical skills check+, late season surge check, 1 year starting, check. remember that snead was supposed to be a top 10 pick in the 2010 draft after his 2nd half of 2008? l going into the season people had him as the #1 jr qb. how has that worked out this year? mallett is top 15 tallent. huge arm, great size, been lights out 2nd half. he will blow up the combine like jamarcus russel. i dont think we get a sniff at him. snead is another guy that scares the poo outa me. i would take them, but are they guys you really want to come in and start day 1? we dont have a starter now, and it be the boldest of moves with the 1 year college starter in mallett (like sanchez), and could blow up in our face oh so easily. we need something better than what we have seen so far. these 2 dont have the experiance you would like. tools, hell yeah, but vick and leaf prove that being physical specimens arnt enough, and ever years in the nfl couldnt get them to quality passers.

The Golden Calf of Bristol? well better pray that we get meyer to come be the HC and run the spread if you want him starting before 2012.

mccoy, now he could work and fall into our laps. the question everyone has is does he have a noodle arm, and is it the system (aka, hawaii qb, texas tech qb).

maybe one of the smaller school guys like hiller or skelton turn into the next flacco. maybe they dont.

the best thing for us, if we dont get a good FA, may be what happens when the browns and vikes pick. best case, both take a qb in the 1st. that would likely drive the value of both jackson and quinn down. i wouldnt mind either honestly. better than what we got, and after both teams signal these 2 arnt the answers for their teams, the price would go down.

2md best case, vikes and browns dont pick a qb. then we might get a shot at mccoy in the 2nd or move up for bradford. again this is if we dont find our future qb on the team the next few weeks or get one via FA.

Well to me IMO..that once in a decade type athlete is like 290 like peppers and can run like 250..Lane to me does not seem like that.but not many if any are like that in the NFL..He seems like a good prospect but because of his size someone will reach for him.I still would love to get Aaron Kampman

No thank you on Jackson or Quinn. It would be a wasted payment to pick up one of those guys. Mallett is the guy that we need if we move up. If we stay put then we can take Snead who I'm not sure about with him throwing 17 INTs. That just doesn't spell mature to me...

You never know on draft day though. Players that you would never expect to slip end up falling. There are a few QBs that I wouldn't mind in this draft and hopefully we get the right coach to teach them as well.

I thought the same thing about Micheal Johnson (GT) and Gilbert last year. Both made into early 3rd. This draft has the potential to be even better above him so I think there is a strong possibility he makes it into the 3rd. And whats awesome is we most likely will have 2 or at least one compensatory pick (Hangman and Frank). He is a bit of a project but his value in the 3rd is off the charts.

PS decade was too strong more like once every 2 or 3 years athlete. My point was they don't come around often.

I don't like Junior signal callers (unless they have been starting all 3 years). They tend to flop. Not to mention the ironic thing is Seniors tend to drop (unless your a Ryan or Manning) even though they have more exp. And as far as Mallet I think Skelton has the better arm and is more athletic (and he is a Senior and 4 year starter). And he could be had about 3 and half rounds later and for about oh I don't know 1/5 the money. I like guys that have improved over there entire careers steadily as opposed to a guy that has only looked good half a season.

if both teams got a 1st round qb the price would drop, likely to less than a 2nd round pick for either one. they would be lame duck qbs on the team with the new franchise guy in place. with an increased supply of teams trying to unload qbs for picks, the price would drop. also would want to see about campbell too, if washington wants to unload him and draft a 1st round qb (be an idiot snyder). at this point i want a starter worth a damn that has some upside left and is better than what we have.

quinn has been decent with the browns, even though he has 1 guy worth a damn to get the ball to, and he is a rookie wr. if we had a qb worth a poo we would likely be looking at the playoffs not poo-canning everyone.

i like mallett but you wanta try to start him day 1? he is this years sanchez, and sanchez hasnt been the world beater everyone thought after the 1st 3 weeks. you could of course sit him for 1 or 2 years, but we still have a qb issue to deal with until mallett is ready. if delhomme, moore, or mccown were servicable for 2 years he would be my #1 qb target, but i dont trust our current qbs at all and dont wanta piss 2 years away waiting on mallett. saying mallett will make it out of round 1 is as crazy as saying quinn, russell, sanchez, or rodgers would have. not happening. niether would locker.

i brought up snead as mallett is getting the same attention snead got after a steller year. then snead slid way back, i am not sold on drafting a 1 year wonder at the qb position with a 1st or 2nd round pick.

personally for the panthers my list would go like this:

clausen

bradford

mccoy (only in the 2nd)

mallett

locker

pike

snead

.

.

.

crompton

The Golden Calf of Bristol (not waiting 3+ years on him)

only cause we need a starter right now.

Yea,I could see that. But Micheal johnson stock fell because he did not have a big year and there were questions about his motor,Something Lane does not have so IDK if he will fall. But if you want Skelton you will have to take him in the 2nd-3rd.

johnson was questioned but not for lack of production as a senior. he turned it on to close the season. the fear was he wouldnt fill the frame out becoming a peppers or mario williams but instead be a talk lanky rush DE only. the motor questions were there too.

As chbright said he fell because of work ethic/character issues not for production (at least in his senior year). I don't think he will fall for any reason other then projections don't take into effect Junior's declaring early. And he is projected to go in the 2nd-3rd round range as it is. I still don't know how Gilbert didn't go in the 2nd.

As far as Skelton, I don't think he is even on most draft boards. I see that changing if he gets an invite to the combine. But with all the likely QB prospects I really can't see a scenario where he is picked before the 3rd. Unless he has a Flacco like off-season (which is possible given his physical skills).
