lets be real here...unless we unload pep for a 1st rounder and pull another fox move trading our next seasons 1st rd pick locker, clausen and bradford are prob gone. now if we look in the second i think colt is as good as it gets at that point. if hes there we take him. i dont think it d be a bad idea with our qb situation to draft 2 qbs and have them compete one in the 2nd and a late round project like jarret brown from wvu. the packers did it with brohm and the lsu kid a few season back and with jake phobia going around u can never have enuff options at qb.

I also like T. Smith but I think we also need to draft a guy and let them compete. If we get Smith you can get a guy with high upside but a project (let him sit for 2 or 3 seasons) later in the draft.

why, troy smith is still a young QB, ready right now (almost beat flacco for the job last year), and can run a conservative passing offense (as he was slated to do in balt). if you bring in a rookie too that means punting 3 out of the 4 qbs we have now (1 stays as #2) unless you want to carry more than 3 qbs on the roster again. i am not sold on punting aj, mccown, and jake for a depth chart of smith, moore, rookie. that is asking for trouble. i would likely keep the cheapest option, jake or mccown as the backup, preferably mccown imo as he was fine in zona, had poo to work with in the black hole before coming here.

i wouldnt mind an udfa to stick on practice squad if we got troy smith that would compete with the likes of cantwell for a future spot as backup or unlikely starter (thinking thad lewis, skinner, rusty smith, ryan perrilloux, or levi brown). they could also compete with moore for the #3 spot as well. i really like thad lewis, i think like troy smith, he just needs a shot. not a strong arm though, and he played for duke.

we could concevably finish so poorly that its total rebuild mode and then the 2nd -3rd round qbs are possible options to start, aka ponder, snead, mallett, mccoy, or pike. honestly with the o-line and running game we have i wouldnt mind sticking one out there if its a rebulding year. unlike the lions, browns, and carr lead texans, we have a line and scheme (run the ball) suitable to baby a rookie qb while not getting them shell shocked (the carr effect).

I don't want to punt any of them. I want plenty of options for training camp. Keep the best cut the rest. In a TC with Troy Smith, Jake Delhomme, Matt Moore, Josh Mccown, Aj Feely, and John Skelton (can be had in the 4th maybe 5th) the opening day roster will be 1st String Troy Smith, 2nd String J Delhomme, and 3rd string John Skelton.

I think Matt Moore has proven he isn't capable of taking over the reins I'm tired of the tease. Josh McCown has had plenty of opportunities to start and proven he is average at best. Ditto AJ Feely. Jake has a big contract and unless there is no cap he will be here no matter what, and no matter what you might think he is a solid vet backup that is a good presence in the locker room. Troy Smith I wanted at the draft but it would be awesome to get him now that the QB guru (Harbaugh) has been working on him two years and kept him from getting ruined by fox. So its a win win for us.

John Skelton is just a physical marvel. If you had to pick a QB's measurements, arm strength, and leadership hes it. 6'5" 258 and is very athletic. He's so much like Flacco in skillset, build, and demeanor its uncanny. For a 4th he his upside is well worth the risk.

I like Skelton too..I dont think we will take him because we will take a QB before the 3rd-4th..were he will go.

The guy who i think the panthers will like..is Snead..makes NFL throws..NFL reads..We might have to trade up in the 2nd to get him but i think he is the guy the panthers want

I want a guy like Golden Tate in the 2nd and a DT or DE in the 3rd. Then Skelton in the 4th that would be my dream draft.

Troy Smith didn't really get beat out by Flacco. From what I remember, he all but had the job heading into the final pre-season game that year, but then got hospitalized for like half a week due to a tonsilitis. As a result Flacco started the first regular season game, and it was smooth sailing for Flacco from there.

Yeah, it's never good idea to do that, you need someone there who already know the system to compete for the job.

I was always an supporter of Christian Ponder, but due the fact that he'll likely go back to FSU next year due to his injury, that ship is all but sunk.

intresting article here. its from 08, but 2nd and 3rd round qbs havent had the success people are looking for:

http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/23qb/23qbs.php

Thats one reason I don't want to pick one in the 2nd. The best QB in recent history to be picked in the 2nd that I consider Elite is Brees and he was picked 32nd overall which the next year would have been a 1st round pick (Texans). I see this Draft as a very deep draft but IMHO its quality is suspect. Every QB in the top 5 by most draft pundits I can punch huge holes in there game. There is no Peyton Manning or Matt Ryan in this draft that is IMO deserving of a 1st round grade.

    • He ain't singing another 1 year $4M deal. He needed to get out of here to show what he could do and he has. Now clue about the Commander's cap situation but they should lock him up.
    • Cam's been on record multiple times publically showing displeasure with many of the moves and decision made in the Tepper era starting with Matt Rhule. We all knew Cam's second stint was a PR stunt during a lost season to help drive some fan excitement. But Cam has stated that he was set up for failure by Tepper/Rhule when he was starting just a week after resigning w/o knowing any of the playbook. Then Joe Brady was fired midseason just as they were game planning over the bye week. Plus Sam Darnold's beef/jealousy when Cam was resigned. Cam has also stated how Tepper/front office/and coaching staff has failed regarding the development of Bryce Young. Cam has also directly said he wanted to be Panther's president in order to help with marketing and driving fan's interest which Tepper has likely ignored.  We all know that Tepper is the petty type specifically buying his former boss's house and demolishing it afterwards, having beef with reporters, throwing drinks at fans, etc.
    • Could not agree more, he has the frame to add LB bulk. His biggest strength is playing near the LOS, great pursuit and closing speed. Man, it pains me that we let him go entering his prime, he signed a 1 year 4 mill contract. Ian Thomas, Shy Tuttle, Ashawn Robinson, Miles Sanders,  Josh Yijiam, etc so many over paid players and we don’t pay young talent.
