Quarterback Stats

Cam Netwon : 228 completions, 2583 passing yards, 60.5 completion percentage , 16 passing TDs, 11 Interceptions

* What stood out to me :

  • McCaffrey leads the team in yards from scrimmage and is tied for the lead in total touchdowns, has the most receptions on the team, and has the 2nd most receiving yards. Also has a much better catch rate than our WRs. He's the MVP of the offense so far among non QBs.
  • Russell Shepard has an abysmal catch rate having after being targeted over 30 times he's only caught about half the passes his way
  • Cam Newton has by far and away the highest yards per carry among players with at least 80 rushing attempts, and has the most rushing TDs. He's literally our most efficient running back, and hes the QB. Let that one sink in.
  • Jonathan Stewart has double the carries McCaffrey has had, yet has a worse rushing average . He's also had 4 games that he rushed for below 2 yards a carry.
  • McCaffrey has only had 2 games with 10 or more carries, Stewart has had 11 games where he had 10 or more carries.

What are your opinions?

yea that boggles the damn mind considering how many carries Stew has gotten. Any other OC would have been trying another back besides Stew and CMC after week 5 at the latest.

Sample size is too small to say CAP is going to keep an average anywhere near that in play. If you take away his one long run, his average is only like 3.2 per carry... no better than the rest.

which seems to indicate a run blocking problem in general

Cam's YPC can't be compared to running backs.  Most of Cam's good yardage plays are opportunistic where he exploits a scrambling opportunity and gets good yardage before contact.  If our running backs only had to carry the ball when an obvious hole was in front of them I'm pretty confident the YPC would be better.  Other than that, why isn't CAP getting more opportunity?

My takeaways:

- Cam is having a great year despite the injuries, considering at least 4 of those INTs are the result of the WRs knocking into the air or in the case of Stew, literally fumbling it into the defender.

- For all the grief CMC gets as a runner on this board, Stew has been considerably worse and I'd rather have CMC as the feature back.

- Give CAP some more snaps for gods sake.

- Russell Shepard has been a huge disappointment while Ed Dickson has been a pleasant surprise.

You won't get an argument for me there. I think we have newly wealthy people syndrome on both lines... KK and Trai have had those post-big money contract let down seasons. And Matt Kalil has been playing like he's taking this year's paychecks and hoping they send him home at the end of the season with those easy money checks yet to come.

Yeah exactly, the sample size is already very small (13 carries) and you want to take away his longest rush? That’s like 8% of his carries that you suggest we disregard. Not to mention it was a beautiful run.
