Who's "Elite" on this team honestly

I was listening to Garcia and Bailey and Frank said Luke is the only elite player on defense. At first I thought he was crazy but other than Luke who's playing lights out on this team. Kk has not been his regular self this year or I'd say him. What about offense is there any elite players outside of Cam either? Why are we so starved for talent this year.

Define "elite" and we can have the discussion.  That word is used FAR too much in sports these days.

Top 5 at your position?  Top 10?

Elite players are exceedingly rare, so only have a few or a couple is not that big of a deal.  In 2015, we really only had two, (or maybe 3 if you count Thomas Davis) on defense, and only one on offense.  For the rest of the positions, you have to just get guys who are good or at least average (by nfl standards) at their job.

I would say having few but one in each key position such as Dline, LB, and DBs. So one elite saftey, lb, and DE would be doable.

Top 5.

Kalil - When healthy

Olsen - When healthy

Luke - When healthy

KK

Star

Turner

Cam - Streaky player, some games "elite" others not so much....but he's certainly in the top 10 IMO.  Norwell is in and out of this group as well.

Those up top are certainly in the top 5 at their positions when healthy, Cam bounces in and out of the top 5 at his position, and Davis would usually be up there...and I could make the case for him now, but his best days are far behind him.

The draft, free agency, and the waiver system is designed to provide parity throughout the league.

There are roughly 12 every-down positions (QB, WR, TE, G, T, C, RB, DE, DT, LB, CB, S).  If only top 5 are elite, then about 60 players are elite.  Dividing these up among 32 teams leave slightly less than 2 per team.  We have Luke and probably Olsen.  Ryan Kalil, Trai Turner, and KK are probably outside looking in.

We can expand the list by saying there are also 5 elite MLBs separate from regular LBs, 5 elite Nickles, 5 elite slot receivers, 5 elite fullbacks, 5 elite strong safeties, 5 elite nose tackles, etc.  This may get Short into the conversation.

The strength of our team is not the individuals, but the meshing and leadership of the talent we have. Anyone thinking a first rounder should automatically be elite, or that we should have 7-8 elite players on the team are in la-la land.

    • It's sort of funny you guys were so bad with 3s tonight about the same time Silver and LeBron both say the game is broken due to too many 3 attempts. The NBA is almost unwatchable. No defense, refs call fouls for almost anything, guys care more about looking pretty on the court than playing tough, etc. Today's NBA is putrid.
    • It's gotten more complicated with the change of CBS and FOX no longer being exclusive AFC/NFC partners From a home team perspective, the NFL requires the home market (which is typically the broadcast reach of the station airing the game) to carry the game. For times where there is a conflict (let's say, FOX Charlotte is airing some major news event) then the broadcast will go to a local station that FOX Charlotte has an arrangement with -- like the CW, maybe.  Only in super-rare instances would local FOX throw the game over to a major competitor like to WSOC/ABC. But it could happen This is how games that are "exclusive" to streaming will end up being broadcast by a local channel in those home team markets -- because the NFL wants the local market to be able to see the game.  Amazon TNF games will always be available on some local channel in those teams' markets, for example. Or the upcoming Netflix games For TV markets that do not have a local team, then the local station gets to choose from what's available. Ideally, they'd choose a regional game or one that is close in the conference.  In Atlanta, for example, we would typically get one of the NFC South matchups for times when the Falcons aren't playing.
