Yeah, there was an injury timeout first and then when they lined up for the play Jake saw they weren't jumping he called a timeout.

There was no timeout called. There was a delay of game penalty and then we punted. My point, however, was not that we should have gone for it on 4th and 1. My point is that we try this strategy far too many times with zero result. Perhaps the best thing to do was to punt the ball and not go for it, IN THIS CASE; but this play merely reminded me of how many times we line up on 4th down and do nothing with it, as a matter of fact, we mostly call timeouts on those plays. This 'strategy' would be far more effective if we actually meant business and went for it occasionally.

Indeed, that is what happened. I reference MadHatter's post as well as my own viewing of the game.

The problem is that our 4th and short fake attempts are expected now, and so defenses know we won't do anything. What we should do is actually go for it while attempting a fake and then catch the defense napping...

Very good point. The fact is if your gonna get someone to jump you have to go for it at some point. I cant remember a time in the Fox era that we have gone for it on 4th down when we were not behind more then 17 point.

On another note if we wanted to trick them we could have Delhomme step back and act like he is gonna take the delay then pass the smoke route to Smith. If it was done under shotgun even better.

I have NEVER seen that play work in Professional Football. It barely works in college.

And yes, it actually does sometimes work. I understand the call, though I'd have to say we executed it poorly.

With Haynesworth out, and the game situation being what it was, I'd rather have gone for it (with Stewart going off-tackle). But that's not big on my list of issues right now.

dude could kick on the run or just run. wildcat with the punter. never know what is going to happen.

probably need a new HC and ST coach for that to happen, though.
