Faking 4th down attempts

52!

Anyone else sick and tired of the 'let's fake going for it on 4th and 1, scream really loud and have a shitton of movement on the line to draw the defense offsides' bullshit call? I've seen that call EVERY YEAR and it has never worked.

Not only is it a stupid f*ckin' call, it's gutless and straight up insulting to opposing defenses and our own fans.

The situation you are referring to in Sunday's game was an example of when this attempt was a good call.

1. We were outside FG range

2. Dropping the short punt inside the 10 yd line is extremely difficult from that distance.

3. The extra 5 yards for the delay of game actually made the punt easier

4. There is always a chance someone jumps.

5. We were not going for it and giving them excellent field position....as we were having trouble lining up and running short (our OLine sucks right now)

We had absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I do hate it where you try it and then have to call time out.

The problem is that our 4th and short fake attempts are expected now, and so defenses know we won't do anything. What we should do is actually go for it while attempting a fake and then catch the defense napping...

Yeah Jake should walk up under center and start barking and as the clock gets around :05, he starts walking back to the sideline and then they direct snap it to Williams or Stewart and they could tough out a yard or two. Too bad our team would never have the balls to do such a daring play.

i actually like that idea. but i also have no problem with them faking it then either. It is one of those things where you never know when it is going to work. if you decide the wise thing to do is punt it then you might as well try it because it doent hurt to try. where we were on the field dictated that we should punt so we tried the fake then punted. Im ok with it this time, i might not be if the same thing had happened 10 yards closer to the endzone.

I honestly thought the Gators were going to do that against LSU - similar situation and The Golden Calf of Bristol started walkin' to the sideline with 5 seconds left on the play clock. I was sure they were going to direct snap it.

Or they're aware of the fact that such a play is now illegal.

I turned to the people that I was watching the game with and said:

"If I was Jerry Richardson, I would have started filling out the termination documents on Fox & Davidson that very moment."

That was a complete and total "I quit" on the game and season as far as I'm concerned. With that move Fox sent the signal to the team that he has no faith in them to move the ball 1 yard. He quit on them IMO.

You've got an 0-3 team in the opponents territory in your own house, what the fug have you got left to lose? Until this team starts to play like they want to win and actually gets into a position to challenge for a wild card spot(pause while I quit laughing enough to keep typing), any time they are on the opponents side of the 50 sending Jason Baker in shouldn't even be a consideration.

conservative ball=lose....we got real lucky yesterday, perfect time to show you got a pair.

No. Just no. All of you.

Chill out, jesus.

Exactly. Rofl.

You see, this is a good post. Not because I agree with him (which I do), but because it was thought out, he laids out his points in an organized fashion and it wasn't full of emotion.

Might that constitute an illegal formation or illegal movement (depending on where Jake is and what he is doing)?

Or they're aware of the fact that such a play is now illegal.

Nevermind, you answered it for me.

    • He ain't singing another 1 year $4M deal. He needed to get out of here to show what he could do and he has. Now clue about the Commander's cap situation but they should lock him up.
    • Cam's been on record multiple times publically showing displeasure with many of the moves and decision made in the Tepper era starting with Matt Rhule. We all knew Cam's second stint was a PR stunt during a lost season to help drive some fan excitement. But Cam has stated that he was set up for failure by Tepper/Rhule when he was starting just a week after resigning w/o knowing any of the playbook. Then Joe Brady was fired midseason just as they were game planning over the bye week. Plus Sam Darnold's beef/jealousy when Cam was resigned. Cam has also stated how Tepper/front office/and coaching staff has failed regarding the development of Bryce Young. Cam has also directly said he wanted to be Panther's president in order to help with marketing and driving fan's interest which Tepper has likely ignored.  We all know that Tepper is the petty type specifically buying his former boss's house and demolishing it afterwards, having beef with reporters, throwing drinks at fans, etc.
    • Could not agree more, he has the frame to add LB bulk. His biggest strength is playing near the LOS, great pursuit and closing speed. Man, it pains me that we let him go entering his prime, he signed a 1 year 4 mill contract. Ian Thomas, Shy Tuttle, Ashawn Robinson, Miles Sanders,  Josh Yijiam, etc so many over paid players and we don’t pay young talent.
