The reason Fox hates stats

First of all your presumption is lame to begin with. Football is a team sport so looking at individual stats doesn't make much sense. Plus if you look at another stat, Jake's poor performances make sense. Through 4 games we have given up 10 sacks which is half what we gave up all of last year. Poor offensive line play is a huge problem with Jake, the run game and the pass game.

Singling out one guy on a team may be fashionable these days but suggests you don't know much about how things in football are linked together or need someone to blame. Either way feel free to carry on. I don't feel the need to beat it up or go on and on. I am going to enjoy this win and look forward to playing better against the Bucs, a team we have owned over the years.

it is a team sport and I have acknowledge that Jake doesn't stand alone for all his turnovers. The number of turnovers is too high by the team and an indivduals player to not address them however as the biggest problem in Carolina a quarter of the way through the season.

the stats I pay attention to are completion percentage, turnovers, and third down conversion percentage (being we are a run first team)

everything else is subjective

looking at those alone I would hate stats too if I were John Fox

Completion percentage is average for Jake's career. Turnovers are better measured + or -. It is never good to turnover the ball but if you are causing more than you are committing then it usual turns out okay. At this point we are -9. That is a big negative. Third down conversion is pretty dismal as well.

That is two faced. You say it is a team sport and then blame Jake. :out:

read the first post. I do blame Jake but he hasn't done it all on his own in sabatoging the start of this season. Playcalling, coaching, and Jake have been horrible since the playoffs.

The offense is killing this team. There poor performance yesterday was holding the team back again. Now that isn't all on Delhomme but I put it on him and Davidson/Fox.

Not two faced when I say the same thing in post #1 above.

Why do you people even care? Clearly Fox looks at stats, but he isn't going to discuss them to the media so he says "stats are for losers". This is just the way Fox is. It isn't anything new. But to suggest he looks at the game film each week and says, "at least we won, that is all that matters", it really naive.

b/c they at times point out the obvious....

Jake Delhomme has committed 10 turnovers through week 5 of the NFL season (4 games).

That is more turnovers than 26 teams have committed this season so far.(with teams playing an additional game)

I'm tired of people pointing out the obvious, though. I get it; Jake has had a few bad games and none of his games really stand out.

The run offense is actually what is lacking if you have watched the past 2 games. The pass has been fine.

Statistically, all that really matter outside of fantasy football is the only one that doesn't matter in fantasy football, wins/losses.

Right now, we're heavier in the losses, but there's some hope.

We can get all caught up in who has what yardage total, or who has how many picks, or who has the most sacks, but really it doesn't matter, does it?

We can all sit around and find any whiny stat we want to to justify firing the coach, or keeping the coach, or benching a QB or knighting a defensive end. But really, do any of them really matter?

-Time of possession? Not if you are the Colts.

-Pass Completion percentage? The Browns won yesterday with Anderson posting 2-17.

-Third down conversions? Not as big of a deal if you consistently convert on 1st or 2nd downs.

-Yards per Carry? Only takes 3.4 yards each time you touch it to move the chains.

-Sacks? Second most overrated stat in the game, right behind tackles.

Of course, that being said, those are all the reasons that make it fun to watch football. You want sacks, precision passing, thunderous rushing attempts, turnovers and whatnot. Without it, it would be just three yards and a cloud of dust all day long. Just slightly more interesting than baseball.

Great post.

Another great post. Everyone who has posted in this thread is intelligent and brings good discussion to the forum, but sometimes we are all naive.

And yeah Gman, that really did go right over your head. :P

Very funny and intelligent joke. You definitely pulled one over on Gman. Gman never claims to be observant. He's just always right!

How can you be right if you overlook something and come to the wrong conclusion?

We all love you here at the huddle; don't worry.
