Defense needs as much blame

Every one not named Addison played like horse poo today, even Luke got torched a couple times. Davis looked 65 years old but that doesn't matter, he's a made man in the big cat's eyes. Star was MIA today, KK doesn't hold a candle to Fletcher Cox.

Oh my... talk bad about *the* TD????  Watch your back young man!

I agree with all of this.

This team really needs some serious retooling once the offseason gets here. No I'm not saying seasons over, if we do get int he playoffs itll be a wild card and early exit for sure we have way too many holes everywhere.

Like Castavar said, its pretty insane how much the organization put into drafting defense high for so many years and we still have a pitiful product on the field. Defense was never the same after 2015 , Norman let go, Harper/Tillman gone, just set our whole backend haywire and we've never recovered from it.

Losing Ginn crippled our downfield passing game. Say what you want about his drops, but we have even worse WRs with even worse hands right now, and they arent as fast as Ginn was.

We're in dire need of a #1 WR who catches everything, even funchess has had problems with drops for two games strait. We also desperately need to replace literally everyone in the secondary with good players who arent constantly getting burned down the middle of the field every game, sick and tired of it. Keep Bradberry and replace everyone else with actuall good players

Yeah pisses me off with such good safety's and corners in last year's draft we didn't get ANY OF THEM in the high rounds. Just stupid choices.

We put out on of the worst wr corps in the NFL history with Funchess, Bersin, Byrd, Clay.... I have never seen something that atrocious

Years ago Bum Phillips said that Don Shula could “take his and beat yours, and take yours and beat his”. I didn’t really appreciate how much of a complement that actually is until recently. He believed Shula could beat another coach just by doing putting his players in a position to maximize their chance for success. That trait hasn't rubbed off on his son, who can’t even make halftime adjustments when he’s only down by 7 pts.

I agree our WR Corp is weak. But, Drew Brees isnt throwing to a group of hall of farmers and neither is Tom Brady. Their coaches are able to usually out game plan the opposition and have potent offenses year in and year out.

When Brees walks into the Hall he won’t be bringing any of is receivers with him. Yet, he puts up 4500-5000 seasons annually no matter who is in the lineup.

Brady won a Super Bowl with Danny Amendola, Chris Hogan, and Julian Eddlemon. He didn’t even have Gronk for the playoffs last year. He won one super bowl in 2014 with Brandon Lafell, a Carolina castoff, as a starter against the Legion of Boom. If our WR core was in NE they’d still be putting 28-30 points every week.

We need better offense I’ve game planning but We also need better QB play. I’ve always felt great QB’s make their skill players better. Cam really doesn’t do that on a consistent basis. He carries the team on his back at times , but I think he’s got play better and become more of coach on the field to get the best out of this current group.

If you look back at prior seasons, you'll find Payton's offenses have pretty regularly scored well on us, even at our best. That's not a new thing.

In the games where we beat them, we had enough offense and special teams success to match them. This season, we don't.

That doesn't excuse poor performance on defense of course, but let's not act like the Saints scoring points on us is an anomaly.

Looks like all of us who said it was a mistake for Gettleman to act a hard ass and rescind the tag was right.

We need to try and draft a #1 CB this draft, and get another safety or two here

I don’t know if we could have afforded to keep a Norman though. Before we got rid of KB this season we were already over the cap for next season and his cap figure was a lot lower than Norman’s would have been. Then again, if we had Josh we wouldn’t have made the mistake of signing M.Kalil because we couldn’t have afforded him. I agree with on the CB statement. Bradberry is a competent starter, but not a game changer. We need someone on the other side.

Gonna react to your post to get you over the 2000 mark.

Our D is overrated. Yards given up per game is such an irrelevant stat. Great defenses for me stop the Run, wrap up and tackle everyone they touch, hardly out of position, disciplined gaps, create turnovers and give up less than 15 PT’s/game ... we are a hard working slightly above average defense

In our defense, we need talent in some areas ...

Not keeping Norman created this domino effect that completely screwed us. We drafted 3 corners when only one is competent. That's 2 wasted draft picks that could of been a player we need. It created a bad year then follow it up with more bad choices.

Feasting on bad teams has severely overrated this defense. We have a good D, but not an elite one as our statistics would say.

Did I not read pre-season that our D would have a schedule against many of the strongest O's in the league but that our O would face many of the weakest D line-ups?  Short of Pittsburgh, maybe Seattle and KC, how much harder could it have been?

The issue is that our front is strong but our secondary is weak. Today even the front 7 and the tackling overall was abysmal.

Without controlling TOP and being ahead in a game all the pressure keeps coming back on them. You're right they're not balanced enough to be considered elite.

We are really bad at CB and WR and that's not good for any team. Int that Brees pass and catch a few Cam 3rd down balls and we win. Don't expect anything new next year because Hurney hasn't fielded a good Corp of these guys ever... Every year it's the same situation. Ignore the lines and boundaries and draft LB's and RBs. And we wonder why we don't produce consistent winners.

Not getting squat for Norman also hurt, that really bugged me that Gettleman just let him go and didn't even try to get some draft picks for him
