What needs to happen isn't likely to

This year was the last chance to actually make a run at a SB. With a mostly aging defense, terrible offense with no wide receivers, running backs, mediocre Oline etc, and inept coaching at all levels, the ship is already under water.  Add in a lousy GM and oblivious ownership and they are done for the for the foreseeable future.

i seriously don't understand people. we're 8-4, had won 4 in a row, and lost to a juggernaut of an opponent on their home turf, and people are starting threads saying we should fire everyone and start over?

you do realize there's 25 other teams in the NFL that would kill to be in our position.

I've seen teams try to start over. I've seen teams start from the ground up and completely rebuild, and I'll tell you this, it's not pretty at all. In fact, it's complete and utter hell, and there's no guarantees in this business. Take the Niners for example. They've been through 3 head coaches and 3 absolutely miserable and bottom dwelling seasons since Harbaugh left, and even Shanahan and Lynch are only 2-10 this year. So that'll be 3 straight seasons of 5 -11 or worse.

just relax, and take the loss like a man. We played like absolute poo today. 2 special teams turnovers, countless boneheaded penalties, receivers not running to the sticks, and some horrid officiating to add. poo happens. This is the NFL.

We have the next 3 games at home. Just make the fuging playoffs and anything can happen. Hell, both of the times the Giants won the superbowl they were a wildcard team with 7 losses in each of those seasons.

Regular season games don't mean poo unless you're fighting for that 1st round bye, and right now, we're not. So the whole point is just to get in the playoffs by any means necessary and use our playoff experience to our advantage, something the Eagles, Rams, and Saints don't have much of.

This. He s exactly right.

As long as we get a chair at the table when it comes to the playoffs, then we're still alive. New Orleans is playing like never before and they've had our number this year. But we're also the team that went into Foxboro and beat Brady.

And Greg Olsen will be back.

We ain't dead and I'm not putting on my funeral clothes yet.

So we win this game we are 9-3 leading our division and doing well, but we lose and suddenly we need to blow up the team and get rid of everyone and start over a la Cleveland.

What ignorant logic and a stupid statement from someone who has watched football long enough to know for everytime that strategy works out it blows up twice as often. Of course we won't do that, it would be foolish to do so.

I firmly believe it's time for a complete overhaul: new coaching staff, new GM, new front office staff, new scouts, all of it.

And yes, I am fully aware of what that means as far as transition. I'll still take it over more years of mediocrity, eventually followed by that same transition. Right now, I believe we're just putting off the inevitable.

All that said, nobody believes we'll even be firing our offensive coordinator.

I said this in the game thread yesterday.  But I do not believe it is going to happen in 2018 or even 2019.  It will take a couple of seasons of low single digit wins to get JR to budge on his apparent faith in Hurney and Rivera and company.  We also need to get shed the old slow worn out players that inhabit about 1/2 of the lockers at BOA.

Some people are are so combustible if this comes up but why the fugg not?  Go get one of these QBs coming out.  Totally agree.  I mean if Mayfield drops to the second then I take him.  Hell if Rosen or Darnell drops in rd 1 I grab em.  I seriously would do it.

I think Garret Gilbert will replace Anderson next year as our no 2.

I would like to see what Ron can do with a team that doesn't have a deficiency that sticks out like a sore thumb like a suspect LT and lack of playmakers at the position of receiver and DB.

You mean have a perfect roster?  Fat chance - every coach has positions of need and weakness - its up to the head coach and his assistants to work around that in order to succeed.  Rivera has yet to figure out good clock management let alone put his players in positions to consistently win.  He has no confidence in them ( see end of first half yesterday as example ) and this lack of confidence destroys the teams image of itself and what they are capable of.  Terrible leadership.

Ask yourself . If we let Shula go, who would hire him .  That will tell you if we need to make a change. Stewart running up the middle 10 snaps a game will not work .  Kallil needs a foot up his rear for all the  penalties he costs the team .  Players know nothing will happen when they don't give 100% .  Those that give 100% get frustrated  with those that lack effort .   Fans  get frustrated by seeing a statue coach on the sidelines like he is watching a movie .  Give me a Dabo Sweeney type of coach involved and showing some fire .

We most definitely need major changes on the coaching staff.  I agree, it's not going to happen.  We have very good players that are very capable but if you don't have a coach getting on that ass, you'll play mediocre.  Just enough to make the money but not to push it over the top.  The saints had fire behind them yesterday.

My opinion on this topic is weird. on the surface, i agree with you @Mr. Scot. This team does eventually need a reset. A complete culture change. But at the moment, i also agree with @TN05 in his thread that anyone wanting to burn it down right this moment is, at the very least, emotionally reacting to a bad loss with foolishness. @beaston said it best:

Next year, we're back to a roster built by Marty Hurney being coached by Ron Rivera. So basically, a return to the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Does that really sound like something you want to see more of?
