Mr. Scot

We are 8-4.  Stop this whining.  Also the team as currently constructed is not going to win a super bowl.  Gettleman was allergic to playmaking wide receivers and good left tackles.  Thats a problem in the current NFL.   We aren't that far away but this is not the year to get worked up and make a bunch of stupid fire sale moves.

Mr. Scot...can I call you that?  I'm assuming that you've been watching sports for as long as I have, but in your experience of watching sports does every team have the best coach?  Can we somehow wrest Belicheat away from New England?  No?  Of course not.  Then again, even Belicheat couldn't get Cleveland going.  Speaking of Cleveland, don't you think our franchise is better than they've been?   We're one of the youngest franchises and yet "fans" bemoan the fact that we haven't won a superbowl...despite the fact that there are many franchises that haven't even been to a superbowl.  We've been to two, we've not won yet but at least we've been there.  That in itself is a feat I would say.

All that said, let me clue you guys in...great head coaches are not beating down our door trying to get in.  We've got a good one now, not great, but good.  Maybe one day we'll build this franchise up to where those great head coaches are beating down our door but until then, live in the now and enjoy every win, every divisional title, every NFC championship, until we do win the big one.  Because if you don't you're going to be a sour sports fan that beats his wife.  Let's not be that guy.  Unless she makes shitty lasagna.

Good?  Really?  Head coaches have certain aspects they need to be masters of such as clock management and tempo.  He doesn't have a clue.  His decisions boggle the mind.  Can you honestly defend that call at the end of the 1st half to just "give up"?  How do you think stuff like that plays out in the locker room?  Does it instill confidence and swagger or does it leave lingering doubts in the players minds?

Everyone likes to point back to 2015.  Just remember this, our "swagger" was created by veteran players and the coach had zero to do with it.  We moved the chains not because Shula called incredible plays, but because Cam went and got that 3 or 4 yards we needed on 3rd down all by himself and we were able to keep the chains moving.  Now we call a deep ball on 3rd and 4th and a SHOTGUN running play on 3rd and 1.  What in the literal fug is that?  Our success in 2015 had very little to do with the coaching.  Rivera STILL mishandles the clock and allowed multiple instances earlier in the year (and almost today) of wasting time outs because we can't get the call in to the huddle in time.  Even if that's Cams fault, did he work with him?  We threw away an opportunity in an earlier game because when KB caught the ball the players took their time getting to the line.  I watched an opponent in a game sometime after that where they did the exact opposite.  The clock was low and their entire squad hustled to the ball and got a play off.  Why was their team prepared for something like that and ours wasn't?  It's coaching.  Why are we still missing tackles this deep into the season.  I saw multiple plays where the guys were going for the massive hit instead of wrapping up.  One time it cost us a Saints first down (on 3rd I think) and they later took that into the end zone.

Rivera is a laid-back "players coach" who doesn't understand the clock, can't motivate for crap and doesn't seem to work on the team's weaknesses, just keeps trying the same old thing over and over.  We need new blood here badly and I don't understand how anyone that follows the team can't see that...

Have said it before: I've been watching, playing, studying, or coaching football for over 40 years.

What I know is this: Teams that win it all do so because everything works together. Talent, coaching, front office, scouting, medical, everything...plus a little luck.

It's never perfect. There are always some parts of the machine that are stronger than others. It's the entire combination that wins or loses.

But sometimes, one or more of the machine's parts just aren't good enough.

Ron Rivera as a defensive genius. He'd probably still be one of the best defensive coordinators in the league right now. Unfortunately, he just doesn't have the skill set to be a great head coach.

And Marty Hurney? Nuff said.

But again, as long as everyone in the office works and plays well with others, winning 7 or 8 games a year - occasionally more - is enough.

And that's why nothing's gonna change.

It's embarrassing that our fanbase feels so entitled that 8-4 is a fire everyone moment. How long will it take to get to the point where we are beyond this?

What's embarrassing is realizing you're part of a fan base that's more committed to this team than the organization is committed to winning.

As long as the PA announcer at the stadium tells everyone, "This is the 120th consecutive sell-out at Bank of America Stadium." The dollar signs light up Jerry's otherwise mannequin eyeballs and it's the only time he smiles.

Try watching the games as an unbiased football fan and you'll see this team for what it really is.

Last week, it was "we're 8-3, everything is fine" to which I responded, "let's see what happens when we play a good team like the Saints".

How'd it turn out?

We're not the first team to build a good record off of beating up bad teams. We won't be the last.

It's an illusion.

I've been watching this franchise since the franchise's birth and this is the best we've had it.

2015 was the best we've had it.

Then the Falcons and Broncos figured out how to counter Shula's system. We haven't been the same since.

New Qb?

Some people are are so combustible if this comes up but why the fugg not?  Go get one of these QBs coming out.  Totally agree.  I mean if Mayfield drops to the second then I take him.  Hell if Rosen or Darnell drops in rd 1 I grab em.  I seriously would do it.

As a fan , this was a tough loss. There is blame to go around from the coaching staff (preparation and motivation) to the players and their execution.

I have to pass on your post because if you think that the coaching staff had nothing to do with the Super Bowl run, tells me you’ve never played a down of football and you don’t understand how that dynamic works. Sorry, no offense but you are living in your own dream world.

Wake up.

Still missing that elite D end. Pep is good not great and that's all we need from him. As far as chemistry and elite talent goes they sorely miss Greg Hardy and if anybody was going to get anything more out of Steve Smith it should have been the Panthers.

Both situations were bungled. Neither player has been adequately replaced to this day. This team is missing that edge that bravado they miss crazy. You need crazy on the battlefield and you keep elite players at all cost because they don't come around often.

It's hard hit on elite talent in the draft it takes some luck. A guy can look like Tarzan and play like Jane in the NFL.

"Special" talent is going to behave differently from "normal" guys but if I'm in a alley or the SuperBowl I'd want 89 or 76 behind me, or 24 for that matter.

They've sterilized the team and people in the Bible Belt find it hard to forgive so this is destiny.

The coaching staff had everything to do with us getting there.

Unfortunately, they also had everything to do with us failing when we did.
