Another season of Rivera mediocrity. Probably the same in 2018

I was watching down in Atlanta with Falcon fans and they couldn't believe we didn't even try.  One guy was like, well they are going to run it out to the half so they don't throw an interception, then he looked up and was like "why are they running it if they want to run out the clock, just kneel?".  Stupid coaching all the way around, including lining Cam up in the shotgun on a 3rd and 1 and going deep on a 3rd and 4 when we have the quarterback most likely in the entire NFL to get a few yards on a designed run or even just jumping the line.  It's beyond stupefying to me.  I just can't fathom that any coach would make those decisions...

they were running it because Rivera wanted to even up the R/P ratio and those are the kind of things that matter to Ron Rivera

Just like the Broncos needed a change when firing Fox to get them to the next level.  The time has come for the Panthers to do the same.  Whose our Kubiak to come save the day?  Will Hurney have the balls to do what’s necessary?

Marty Hurney firing somebody for poor job performance?

There's some irony.

Worth remembering that Hurney didn't actually fire John Fox. He just let his contract run out without extending it.

Just now, Mr. Scot said:

People being optimistic because for now, we're still in the playoffs...

But realistically, even if we do make the postseason, so what?

Is there anyone here who genuinely believes this team can win a playoff game? That we would have a shot at beating a legitimate contender?

Right now, the promise of the playoffs is the promise of one more game where we probably get beaten badly. Make sure you add to that the promise of more Riviera, more Shula, and most likely more Hurney as well.

(hey why not? we made the playoffs, right?)

Scot, look at the other teams that are expected to make the playoffs in the NFC this year. Look at the recent playoff experience of those teams, and ours... Once you're in the playoffs that's a big deal and really anything can happen. Look at the Giants' most recent two SB wins. They looked way worse than Rivera's teams have ever looked at times those years and finally hit their stride in the playoffs and won it all against great NE teams.

I'm not overly optimistic and don't think our odds are all that great, but there's a lot of football left to be played and what is the point in being a downer the rest of the year? If you think we're going to just get beaten badly in the playoffs then why even watch the rest of the year? Just don't waste your time and do something else. I will enjoy watching and hoping for us to win it all because it's still very possible.

He was interested in better OCs like Turner and Jackson before. However he thought continuity was better in keeping Shula. He believes in that to a fault and the '13 and '15 seasons have clouded his judgement. Hopefully he sees the light in the offseason, because he's shown at the very least he recognizes better options. I also feel better about Rivera choosing another OC than Richardson choosing another HC based on what I've said.

And his beliefs haven't changed.

While we're all pining for someone like Hue Jackson, Rivera would turn around and promote Ken Dorsey.

Dude we are 8-4 with doodoo butter OLine/WRs/TE/CBs

Although he has been much more of Rowboat Ron than Riverboat Ron, Rivera is not the end all be all with the Panthers problems... they have a lot of holes. And let's be honest, Gettleman set us up for failure by getting rid of Ginn and Norman, signing Matt Kalil, never drafting sufficient OLinemen or DLinemen when his entire thing was hogmollies..... etc etc etc.

this team is 1 Funchess injury away from having Russell Shepard, Byrd, Bersin and Ed Dickson as our WR/TE ...........wtf......and we're 8-4 and in a wild card spot. You guys react like the Panthers are 5-7. Another tough game next week, but what will everyone be saying if the Panthers come out with a Win over 10-2 Minnesota ???

and who knows might get another rematch against the Saints in New Orleans.....so everyone just hold the fug tight.

Jesus fugging Christ.

Y'all are losers. You like losing. It makes you feel vindicated to see failures you "predicted" rather than see us succeed. So you're fine blowing up a team that is 48-27 with playoff appearances in three of the last four (likely to be four of the last five) seasons and going through extended mediocrity while our two stars are in their prime, just to feel like you were right. You're entitled, narcissistic and utterly devoid of logic to the point you look at an 8-4 team set to likely make the playoffs, with an exciting rookie, two all-league players on offense and defense, and the return of our most reliable target and say "fug it, let's tank".

You like losing. It's what you're comfortable with. Easier to whine and b*tch while losing than look at success in the face. You stand back and worship your fallen idol general manager and want the team to tank to prove you were right... meanwhile real fans want our team to win, and win now.

You're pathetic, and we deserve better fans. Grow up. If you're ready to leave after one loss, go ahead. The door's right ahead. Don't let it hit your ass on the way out, and don't try and come back in the playoffs. We don't need you.

    • The agenda was building around Bryce.  2 WR, 3 olinemen, TE, and a potentially elite RB.  I stood up for Bryce all last year because I didn't think you could evaluate him properly with what we had last year in coaching, play calling and personal.  Bryce was the 2nd least pressured QB in the last 2 weeks because of the money Morgan spent on the line.  Despite Bryce looking horrible I'd say Morgan has had an exceptional beginning as GM. Here some more things I liked. Trevin Wallace looked like a banger in preseason.  Resigned Brown.  Gave Horn his 5th year option and Horn is playing very well. *Flipped a 7th round pick for a starting CB in Michael Jackson who has also played well. Filled a depleted roster with solid vets and if you really look at the cap this is a 2 year play.  Almost everyone except the 2 elite guards signed a 2 year deal. Did not pay Stephen Gilmore 10 million for one season. *Got the 0-2 Rams 2nd pick next year. Set a culture and tone of the type of players we want.  *Dawgs. *Elite GM moves.
