Another Explanation For Cam’s Overthrow to “Wide Open” Ed Dickson against the Jets

So, the painfully obvious question would be,

"Why did the OC dial up 28 pass plays if his thumb was a problem and it's clear he couldn't hit grass without the help of gravity?"

Or play without a full back. A week later and I still have no idea what the game plan was for that game

This is an old trope that’s always been false and incorrect.

But because he throws harder and more aggressively than other QBs everytime he puts the juice behind it people like you who fear big and powerful QBs like Cam you want to blame him for what other QBs do more.

What on earth are you attempting to say here?

The ratio of pass to run for this game was well below our season average which is already one of the lowest in the league

We're sitting at 8 wins and could take control of the division this Sunday thanks in large part to Cam Newton carrying the load in our run game, but we've got mouth breathers like @PantherPhann89 littering threads with rants about "overthrows" in all caps.

Yep, the Panthers fanbase.

They are talking about Cam's inaccuracies, not saying (in this thread) that he should be traded for a 3rd and 7th round pick.

This entire thread should have never been created because the premise is garbage to begin with, "let's explain away one horrible pass" that didn't lead to an int or lose of the game.

Yeah, this is irrelevant. Cam had accuracy problems all day, and this is coming from a guy that is in the "Cam's going to miss some, but he's going to hit more times than not, especially with the game on the line. So, we have to live with it" camp. I am all for pointing on when a throw isn't as bad as some might say, but this is not one of those times. He's hit that throw too many times for him to miss there. If the thumb is truly why he was all over the place, it'd make sense to me at least. As I said, Cam hits those out routes all day long. It's his go-to throw, the one that he's most known for. Few QBs can hit that throw with tight coverage as consistently as Cam does. However, he missed here. It's OK, too. One game, we won the game in the end, so there's no need to defend it.

Or Cam is a streaky, inconsistant QB that isn't a super great at passes that aren't 12 yard bullets.

Right? The perpetual duel between outrage & excuse-making factions always confuses me — Cam is a dynamite athlete and great QB overall, but consistency issues (rightfully) prevent him from being considered a great passer, and that’s unlikely to change in year 7, especially given his seemingly-increasing tendency to pick up nicks. He’s plenty good to win the team a SB, even to drag them there...I just don’t get why people try to sell him as something he’s not (or, conversely, rage when he doesn’t live up to ~Brady standards from a pure passing standpoint).

The best part is when you look at Cam's numbers to this point in his career compared to modern QBs we consider "elite"...Cam is right there. Nobody with a brain thinks Cam is a BAD QB. He's inconsistent and is on pace to have a VERY respectable career (arguably HoF if/when he gets a ring or two). He's inconsistent but is still really good. Imagine consistency with his passing. He'd be the GOAT right now.

I think some fans suffer from putting a microscope on Cam vs other QBs. Honestly outside of the greatest like Tom Brady or Drew Brees all QB struggle from time to time. Cam is a great QB and makes impossible passes often, he also makes bad ones. Just like all the others in the league.

You take the running away he's still a top 15 QB in the league passing. You add running he's top 5

I've seen Cam Newton make throws few QB's could pull off. There's no debating that accuracy wise he has been streaky at times though. But he has the champion pedigree. I believe he will be a hall of famer when it's all said and done.

Putting it into full perspective, I feel like many years down the line there are going to be people wondering "what if" when he finally hangs his cleats up. We've seen what he can do when he isn't overcoming multiple injuries throughout a season. This franchise has overwhelmingly relied on him to save the day through his time here so far, and even if we failed, he still put it all on the line for the team. Which makes it unbelievably pitiful that there are still people out there all these years later who question his integrity as a teammate.

There are definitely some ungrateful Panthers fans that don't really know what they have in our franchise QB compared to the revolving door other franchises have had behind center for so many years. The real ones see it, but they are becoming less and less common it seems like.
