I like this guys game more and more every time I watched the Panthers...

He has the same fire that Steve Smith posses...

I really like the play he got the pass interception penalty, the receiver would get the ball anyway, so it was no big deal but he was so aggressive and it can be easily ruled as defended pass also...

Or the play, he delivered hell of blow to the TE and injured his shoulder, actually TE did good to hold on to the ball... I mean this is 189 pounds against 250 something...

I hope he would keep it up....

I think that penalty was more the result of him ending up on top of the receiver than anything else. I mean, I don't remember what it looked like (the entire play) down to the details, but when I saw it a second and third time during the game I came to the conclusion that he didn't do all that much (as in, he didn't do all that much that deserved a penalty).

Oh I did and still do like the Brown pick (in time I think he will be a good pass rushing DE). But I still would have rather addressed our DT need before. I can't believe we didn't get Gilbert he would be a perfect replacement for Lewis (really is not strong in any area). Until he bulked up we could have used him in rotation as a DT/DE. Instead of Irvin pick up Sammie Lee Hill mountain of a man 6'4 329 lbs been an awesome sub for Kemo's eventual injury. We could have gotten them both without even losing our 1st next season and without losing any real productivity from what we actually drafted. You build your lines from the inside out. I just wish I could prove Einstein wrong and go back in time.

yea but the team is and was staring down the barrel of loosing peppers... If we lose pep we are going to need DE help real quick.

I think CJ is more then capable of starting in this league. He is the best all-around DE on our roster IMHO. Brayton is an excellent run stoper. Taylor has shown potential as a pass rusher in the few times he has seen the field. You bring in a DE or two outta FA (with that 17 million) and a late round or a couple UDFA's to compete for another rotational guy. We would be looking at an all around much better D if we had done this. And before you say hindsight I saw this coming in April and I let it be known. So if I saw what needed to be done with this team why couldn't they is my ?

We don't need DE help. We need DT help.

If we picked up Haynesworth and let Pep walk, we would be better off than we are now. I know it's not a popular feeling amongst some people, but fact is Haynesworth is still a beast and we have more than sufficient DE's to get to the QB. The only question exists would be whether Haynesworth stays healthy. But really, that can happen to anyone at anytime..

We would have payed Haynesworth about the same as we originally offered Pep..

Since we didn't go that route, the solution still has the same parameters.. We need a pro-bowl type DT more than worrying about DE.

haynesworth has exactly the same (if not worse) motivational problems as pep. i agree we need a pro-bowl DT.

we wouldn't be starting a 2nd round pick DT even if we had one. We'd still be facing the same problem we are now. There was no solution to the problem we have now to be found in the draft. Frankly, I'm happier with our DT situation right now than I have been all season.

Most fans have it in there heads that you have to get big name players to get big game out of them. This is simple not the case. It is far better to spread the salary of Pep along a deeper and altogether more talented Dline. This makes it far harder for O coordinators because they cannot gameplan against one great player. Instead they have to gameplan around 4 very good players.

still don't see how going for Haynesworth over Pep would be worse. He's still a beast in the middle and would have alleviated some of the cap problem.

I'm not stuck on Haynesworth though, so much as we NEED a top notch DT, and start grooming solid DTs in the future...

My main point is that DE isn't a need we have to focus on before DT is addressed.

he may be the best all around guy not named Julius. Not living up to weekly salary doesn't mean he isn't still clearly the best all around DE in a Carolina uniform.

Captain has been a really good pickup in the 7th round. Not many guys catch on in the league period and almost none of them play the minutes that he has so far. This guy could develop into a solid nickle guy for many years to come.

Martin does worry me though. After several years of great draft picks it looks like the Panthers have missed on a few guys. It is to early to tell with Martin but we really need him to be a player for us in the years to come.

BTW: Love the play of Gamble so far this year. This guy is really strong for us.

O come on man. First we lose our starter for the season. Then we lose his backup for the season. Now we have a 36 YO out of shape guy who is nothing more then a temporary band aid on a broken foot. Do you really think with those kind of injuries he wouldn't get a chance? Of course with the laughable amount of injuries to the DT he might have already been injuried. But at least they would have tried seriously to address the single greatest weakness for us last season.

I think he is far more consistent then Pep. I don't care how many sacks Pep has he has always been the most inconsistent player not named Jake in a panthers uniform. CJ gives consistent effort on every snap. You along with most people think that athleticism trumps effort. But if I was John Fox and I had to cut one of these guys no doubt in my mind Pep would be shown the door.

we also lost our 3rd rounder for the season. so it's not as though the position went completely unaddressed. once again, i agree with you that we need DT help, the FO didn't think the value was there in the second. Maybe they were right, maybe they weren't. We'll see how good a player Brown becomes, regardless of where our need was that's what all this hinges on. You don't draft for need.

The DT position is a problem but much of the problem has to do with injury. With Kemo beside Lewis we would be solid at starters. The problem is depth at the position and they tried to address that with a 3rd rounder who also got hurt.

True we need depth here and maybe a new starter next year. Kemo back with a new starter and Lewis and Irvin as backups would be a solid unit.
