Captain Munnerlyn

No, it's not that our 7th rounder is performing well. It is that our 2nd rounder is not performing at all.

Martin also got hurt so that definitely didn't help matters. We got a steal in the 7th who turned out to be as good or better than Marshall and that's why Martin isn't playing. He's 4th on the depth chart so we won't see him much anyways...

Uh, who cares? Captain is playing better than Marshall right now. Of course he is going to play. That doesn't mean every rookie is going to see the field the first year.

This has nothing to do with Captain. I mentioned this only because the Panthers pride themselves on building from the draft. Yes, the Panthers did a great job in picking Captain in the 7th. But, our 2nd round pick (Martin) so far appears to have been a reach, and this team is not good enough to 'reach' on a 2nd rounder. Like another post said 'I will just pretend that Captain was the 2nd and Martin was the 7th.

I know not every rookie will play the first year, but typically the good ones do. Even Marshall played in his rookie year, as did Gamble, and Godfrey. It would be great if Martin was at least 'good enough' to challenge Marshall so the team could get better.

Really? I thought it has to do more with a shotty run defense and giving teams good field position

That's the key to our second-ranked pass defense right there. It's not that our secondary is bad; just unproven. Teams haven't had to chuck the ball down the field consistently to beat us. It will be interesting to see how our secondary fares with improved play by the line.

That is a pretty niave way to look at it.

Tom Brady...a 6th rounder that is outplaying every QB in the league for the past 10 years.

Peyton Manning begs to differ.

I digress though, Cpt has been pretty impressive so far. Sadly so was Manning jr so let's not get ahead of ourselves as we all know how that turned out.

Brown had a sack and FF... that's contributing right?

And only 3 tkls. Thats not as bad as our other 2nd but brown almost never sees the field (I think this is due to Fox more then him). He hasn't been contributing nearly enough on a consistent basis for what we gave up for him.

I was on here the whole end of the draft screaming we get him... When he was still available in the 5th, I was saying we need to take him or Macho Harris, I wish we would've done both, lol... But, I love Munnerlyn. I knew he was gonna be a playmaker.

Say what you want about his size, but the guy is strong and quick. Tyrone Poole had a good career playing much the same way. Actually, Munnerlyn might have a better skill set and potential than Poole.

And I was wanting to post this during the game yesterday but forgot... Anyone else notice that Munnerlyn was lining up on the flanker and Marshall was on the slot everytime we went to the nickel package? Impressive.

I called him taking Marshalls spot back around week 1 some time this season. He is like the Steve Smith of CBs. If he is 80% of the player Smith is we got the biggest steal in the draft.

i remember when people were saying this about davis.

relax, brown has only played in 3 games. if he keeps this pace I'll be extremely happy.

Oh I did and still do like the Brown pick (in time I think he will be a good pass rushing DE). But I still would have rather addressed our DT need before. I can't believe we didn't get Gilbert he would be a perfect replacement for Lewis (really is not strong in any area). Until he bulked up we could have used him in rotation as a DT/DE. Instead of Irvin pick up Sammie Lee Hill mountain of a man 6'4 329 lbs been an awesome sub for Kemo's eventual injury. We could have gotten them both without even losing our 1st next season and without losing any real productivity from what we actually drafted. You build your lines from the inside out. I just wish I could prove Einstein wrong and go back in time.
