I hear a lot on here about CMC being over-drafted, but his numbers are really good compared to similar-skilled players drafted around the same time.  I looked at skill guys (RBs and WRs) drafted between 6-11 over the past 15 years or so.  The numbers below show Rookie Year yds from scrimmage.  For every AP or Gurley, there are about 4 CJ Spiller/Tavon Austin types.  CMCs projected numbers really stack up.  IMHO he is performing above average for his draft position.

Player Draft # Yds Scrim TD Fumble
K Robinson 9 549 2 2
D Terrell 8 415 4 0
Thomas Jones 7 581 2 4
Ron Dayne 11 781 5 1
Roy Williams 7 818 8 1
Reggie Williams 9 268 1 1
Troy Williamson 7 410 2 0
Mike Williams 10 350 1 2
Peterson 7 1,609 13 4
Ginn 9 423 4 3
Heyward-Bay 7 143 2 0
Crabtree 10 625 4 1
Julio Jones 6 1,015 8 1
Spiller 9 440 1 5
Austin 8 569 5 4
Evans 7 1,051 12 0
Gurley 10 1,294 10 3
K White 7 0 0 0
M Williams (2017) 7 84 0 0
Ross (2017) 9 12 0 0

CMC Projected(2017) 8 1,071 7 1

Your chart makes a powerful case for why you don't draft a RB at the 8 slot.

What a disingenuous chart, you’re comparing receivers to running backs, Mccaffrey already has 100 more touches than any receiver on that list.

And you’re using bust like Ron Dayne and Mike Williams to boost your argument? really

Here we go again.  I laid it out - all picks 6-11 of skill positions (reminder CMC was pick 8) over last 15 years.  Good or bad.  Busts or studs.  If I missed anyone, it was an oversight.

The point was to compare Rookie stats to debate whether CMC was overdrafted at 8.  Whether you can wrap your head around it or not, CMC is a hybrid RB/WR, which is why I showed both RBs and WRs.

As before I will not respond further to you.  You consistently add nothing to the conversation. Go *** yourself.

Would be willing to bet he didn't even read the OP. Just saw the chart then went into full on Goob mode.

To most folks, this reaffirms what they have been seeing. CmC is having a whale of a rookie season. We have seen what he does to Defenses, and he has helped Cam out a lot. The kid is a Chain Mover. And ultimately. Isn't that what you want out of your #8 pick.

Would also like to add. IMO, it is the rushing yards. Or the lack there of that have the haters panties in a bunch. Like that is the only metric used to evaluate a RB.

One could argue we didn't.  Dude lines up everywhere.

The kid has done more to make opposing Defenses adjust, than anyone since Cam. Yet for some reason. It just isn't enough for some folks.

All they care about is he doesn't have enough rushing yards. To heck with all that other stuff.

Joe mixon was getting praised for having 100 something rush yards Sunday but he had over 20 carries. I wish mccaffrey could get that kind of workload, I really want to see how he performs with in a lead back role and not splitting carries so everyone can fuging see that he isn't ass at running

I included Foster because the Huddle was here for most of his career.  Also, he started out here in rotation, just like the other three.  So it made a twisted sense to me to add him into the mix.

The very first game chat here in the Huddle was a preseason game one which Foster took his first NFL hand off to the house. We all went nuts!

CMC should get 20 touches a game.  Period.

Do that and he will be what the haters think he should be.  He doesn’t get the touches because we insist of getting touches to an old RB that can’t run....a consistent issue.  Not a CMC issue.

Definately need to get him those touches on that turf this week.  But we won’t.  He barely touched the ball vs Det on turf either.  Dude can destroy dudes on that quick surface

It’s sad how fast Stewart has fallen.

Man, if he was never injured nor split with DeAngelo, he’d likely be in the same sentence as AP. Coming out of Oregon, he was arguably one of the biggest athletic freaks in a long time to come out.

Man. What could’ve been.

But yes, I think we need to pass the torch to CMC and CAP the next few years. Stewart’s been great and I love him, but he should retire or pass the reins while he still can.

Stewart's closest comparison is Fournette.  And it's funny how Fournette always seems to be injured but plays anyway, just like Stewart in his early days.

I've tried my best not to go full DWill on Stew.

I mean it ain't Stew's fault his number gets called.   It is a coaching issue.

I still maintain I think Jim Skipper is a HUGE problem.  There are 3 examples now in his time in Carolina where he has continued to give his old RBs crazy carries while better RBs clearly needed more touches.

Foster, Williams and now with Stewart.   Assume this is Stewart's last season.....it oddly resembles the last season of the others.

Stew is more elder statesman where DeAngelo was prima donna
