If you saw La beat the Saints you know

If we have any sembelance of a lead in the 4th quarter , Rivera will play ultra conservative like he always does. I'm actually predicting this to be a close loss. We always play down to the competition, but even last season we were playing up to the competition vs Cheifs, vs Raiders, vs Broncos, and this season vs Patriots. If anything  , following the trend we will likely be trading scores with them and itll be close late in the game.

Just going into the psychology of it, the players already know they got beat down by the Saints at home once and if they let themselves get trampled over again, they'll be booted out of the division race and no one will respect them as a contender (losing to Saints 2x and Eagles 1x, i.e. they dont have what it takes to actually beat an NFC playoff team). Even if its not the best performance I'm predicting them to play their asses off.

I think what it comes down to is turnovers. If we throw 3 picks like the last time we haven't a shot in hell. However this team is 8-0 when having 1 int or 0 int, and 0-3 when 2 or more ints are thrown, so that's a key stat to keep an eye out on. Cam gets mentally frustrated and his play suffers after throwing anymore than 1 int and the team pretty much follows suit. Saints are too good to win against if we dont win the turnover battle. But if we can force a couple key turnovers and not commit any on our own, i seriously like our chances. Cam's going to come out hot off the press after stinking it up last game vs the Jets and everyone knows the division's on the line.

I do see some turnovers.  Armstead and Fleener left the game yesterday and even if they do play, I see Peppers and TD (who nearly forced a McCown INT yesterday) forcing at least one from dead arm Brees.

I don't want us to give up on the run.  Being able to run when the other team knows its coming and can't stop it is pretty powerful.  From what I've seen I don't know its Shula's fault as far as schemes go.  If our Oline doesn't do their job no RB is going to be able to do theirs.

Kalil is back so I hope we get better (fast).

I love the post OP - have always been a fan of twisting the knife instead of playing it conservatively.  Keeping Brees off the field is very good idea, and holding his receivers so they can't get separation, double teaming Thomas.

On the other side of the ball playing prevent defense is the one thing we do I truly cannot stand.  I know coaches have their jobs/millions on the line but dang...can't one ease up on coverage without just letting a team walk down the field?

If you saw La beat the Aints you should have seen the "key to the victory" when it was winning time late in the game and Brees gets into insanely accurate clutch time. The La Rams threw pass after to pass to move the ball keep the chains moving and Brees on the sideline. Point being Aints have some stout run d and trying to seal a game by running when the team knows your about to run is not a winning formula. Even with Gurley who we all believe is all worldy they threw solid passes late in the game to seal the victory. Will we be able to replicate that success because trying to run it to protect a lead isn't going to work. We all know Ron with a lead is shutting down the offense how do y'all feel about passing the ball to seal the victory late in the game?

I saw a different game. I took the Rams -3 in the game and saw the Rams defense control the Saints offense the entire game except the two Kamara splash plays. The Rams controlled time of possession (35min) and had built up an 80% win prob by the mid/late 2nd Qtr which steadily moved to 95% with 10mins remaining.

With a 10pt lead and receiving a NO punt with 10min left in the 4th Qtr, McVay chose to start that possession with a great Gurley 1st down run that followed with called passes on 1st and 2nd down which ensued with an interception on 3rd down - the drive gave away the ball and took only 90 seconds off the clock. Fortunately, the Rams defense stoned Brees with a 3 and out which forced a NO punt.

The following Rams drive began with 8min remaining and had 5 Gurley 1st down runs between the tackle. That drive took almost 6min off the clock and ended with a FG to push the game to Rams +13. Game over on both straight up and the ATS.

Well unfortunately most of us know how this will go.  The old stubborn coaching staff will go into prevent defense and prevent offense if we have a one point lead Midway through the 3rd quarter.  Hopefully we can hold on and win and hopefully no one has a heart attack while sweating it out.  And don't forget the repeated runs up the middle with the entire defense anticipating it and awaiting our RB.

Rivera is what he is.

Sitting on a tenuous lead by running it up the gut for a 3 yard loss (twice) before tossing the ball up in the air with a hope and a prayer on third and long is what the Panthers do.

Of course we'd hope the Rams win against the Saints would result in the Panthers coaching staff having a sudden epiphany when it comes to their game management, it won't.

If somehow the Panthers manage to dominate the Saints and build a virtually insurmountable lead through three and a half quarters... be prepared to watch as that lead quickly dissipates in the final minutes with Ron's classic "play not to lose" strategy.

Man I agree with your views of the game the d definitely played solid blanket coverage keep pressure on Brees all game. That interception was the effort and reason why Sammy is where he is that made me furious that was Stewart vs Philly type of buffoonery. But I saw passes even with those first down runs plenty of passes I didn't see smash mouth let's get outta here with a win let's see who's stronger type of football. Aggressive offense let me say play after play.

I 100% believe we should be pushing the gas to seal these victories..

Rivera has adopted the "let's give it back with plenty of time for the other team" approach.

Who says we'll have a lead to protect? They may be using that 3rd ranked rushing game, or the short passing game, to run the clock out on us. And if we don't play better than the 1st game, the clock won't even be a factor.

Not saying a given just a good scenario to ponder.

This is next level sh*t right here and explains how Goff looks absolutely amazing this year compared to last year. McVay is calling the damn audibles! That is genius.

This is real genius I'm crazy impressed Mcvay is next level for this thinking.

Thank you Jesus we now have a huddle who ACTUALLY watches the game instead of posting drunk out takes?

This is the kind of thing actual offensive minds can do.

Win a field goal and defensive battle?  That sounds a lot like us.

I was surprised at how well the Rams defense played.  I thought both teams would put at least 30 on the board.  That is the second game in a row in which the Saints offense was mostly shutdown for the first 55 minutes or so.  And even with both corners out, the Saints held the Rams to three second half field goals.
