Wake up Call

well we wont know if it's a wake up call until we see how they play next week, i would like to think it is. i had a bad feeling it was going to be a rough game 2 weeks ago.

Pretty sure there were folks talking about how the Jets are more dangerous than their record and stats suggest. Plus the fact we played them on their own field.

Nobody wanted to listen.

Now we get the "wake up call."

Sounds like fans need to pull their heads outta their asses.

I agree.  Lots of spoiled fans on this board.  I read today that if we win the south this year, it would be 4 titles in 5 years.  I didn't think about it like that.  That is an amazing run we have had with these players and the coaching staff, as much as people do not want to give them credit for some reason.  It puts us in the top 4-5 franchises in the league.  Some folks have forgotten the late 90s and early 2000s as well as the 2009-2012 seasons.

Most consistent franchise in the NFC South.

1. Bullshit. Our team was prepared. To many mistakes on the offense, doesn't equate to not being prepared.

2. It's alright that Olsen was eased back. Would have been better if Cam at least played averaged.

3. Bullshit again. Our team has to much veteran leadership to look past any team. Do away with that lame ass fan perspective.

4. The only thing I could agree with you.

This was not a wake up call.  Thanks for your concern.

1.) "Our team was prepared" and "too many mistakes on the offense" are contradictory.  The Carolina Panthers had 10 penalties for 84 yards. 4 on the offensive side of the ball and 6 on the defense. I'm not sure what you think being prepared means, but mental errors are apart of that equation.

2.) Did you get the impression I'm saying that Greg Olsen should not play? The point is that Greg Olsen "easing" back in didn't help us. Especially since he aggravated his foot again. I'm sure he'll be fine and that things will be back on track. Missing 8 games absolutely has an effect on team chemistry.

3.) "Slightly" being the operative word there sparky. The larger point is about how this team plays down to its competition. Even veterans are susceptible to trap games. Everyone who is a veteran now, was a veteran when we played the Bears.

Calling bullshit without actual data makes your premise bullshit.

This had BETTER been a wake up call. If not, we're losing 2 out of the next 3 games.

Nobody is better than their record hoss. Jets are 4-7 for a reason.

The Carolina Panthers are the better team and should have won this game convincingly. We won despite our poor play/ coaching because we're that much better than the Jets. The Jets gifted us this game with the late hit on Cam in the 4th. We were not in field goal position and would have given the ball back to the Jets who have proved all game that they could throw the ball on us.

So GTFOH. This game was something to be concerned about.

You obviously didn't watch the same game. Or any of their games. That offense of the Jets moved the ball, and has no problem moving the ball against the best defenses in the league. If it wasn't for their own mental errors, they would be much better.

It's amazing how you give jets no credit. You need to take your own advise and GTFOH.

"Moving the ball" has not equated to winning ballgames. I give them credit for what they are. A professional football team with professional athletes who are 4-7.

But I think you're making my point for me. Didn't I just say that they the Jets were able to move the ball on us?  And if it were not for the late hit on Cam, they could have gotten the ball back with time to run their 2-minute drill.

Are you sure, or are we worse than our record indicates?  It has to go both ways right?

A little of both, I think. Teams are closer than their records (especially ex post) indicate, so still good for the Panthers to hold serve. Offense needs to tighten things up, but that defense will continue to give them all the chances in the world to win.

I bet on all the games every week ATS in a large 40 man betting pool: As a result, I have no "favorite" team per se although I do admire certain players, coaches or teams at given times. In the past few years, the two coaches and teams that have quickly built specific identities and outperformed ATS and straight up are Zimmer's Vikings and Rivera's Panthers: The two coaches are eerily similar in many aspects of their coaching careers, football philosophy and execution. A foundation of solid defense and ball-control offense has been, is and will be in the future the secret recipe for consistent success in the NFL game - and both coaches fundamentally understand this.

For all the analysis, insight, opinions, etc. that football fans have concerning "their" teams and the NFL in general, I find most of it useless unless they are backed up by people who actually place money on the games: If there is no skin in the game, all analysis will be inherently skewed by opinion, bias or emotion. While most fans know only "their" team, each NFL game is a contest between two sets of highly paid players and coaches who practice and try their best to win games so success is a difficult thing to accomplish for a sports league with identical salary caps.

The consternation concerning Carolina from most of the fans here is strange to me. Those placing money behind their opinion this year predicted Carolina to win 9 games this year so the team is clearly on track to outperform that general forecast. As for the individual games, the team is on a current 4 game win streak ATS and is 7-4 for the year. That 7-4ATS record places them as third best thus far for the year in the NFL which is a great accomplishment. Rivera and the Panthers are greatly outperforming their expectations this year.

Money players knew that the last game with the Jets was a very tricky proposition for the Panthers. The Jets were 6-3-1ATS entering the game and an incredible 5-0ATS (undefeated) at home. The spread was Jets +5 in a week when the Patriots were -19 so the game was predicted to be a lot closer of a match-up by the Money Guys than the Panthers homers obviously felt. (Thank God for Gano's last fg! - the game was tied for me until that play.)

Anyway, most fans are predictably pessimistic about their teams on Message Boards. The internet does offer a convenient outlet for the angst, anxiety, fear and hatred that many people have about their own personal lives so a sports "fanatics" message board would be an obvious channel for it. I would just like to add my opinion that Rivera and the Panthers are actually performing very well relative to their NFL peers not only this current year but for the past few years.

The Saints are -4 for the next game. The Saints have outperformed this year as well and predictably this results in their great Away 4-2ATS record. Money has been going to Saints early so my own thought is to see how far the line moves. The Saints have performed well ATS vs the Panthers the past few years and my own thought is that the Saints win 27-20ish so all signs point to a Saints straight up victory: Carolina pays +175 for a straight up win so anyone insulted by the prediction should call their bookie.

It is a tough game to have a "feel" for though because of the teams' playoff implications, the rivalry aspect and the complications of the Olsen injury and Lattimore/Fleener injuries. Ultimately, the difference in a game where strengths match up against strengths will prob be the Panther's passing vs. the Saints passing defense. If Newton passes well, the Panthers can cover...if Newton passes great, the Panthers can win the game...if Newton from the Jets game shows up, the Saints win big.

The Bears should have been our wake up call, no such thing 11 games into the season. We can't keep on counting on teams to drop easy passes in the end zone, or defense causing turn overs and scoring points or even special teams scoring points, including Gano and his extra points.

I've said it before and will again, Cam is very lucky to have such a stout defense year in and out for the most part. We really need the offense to wake up, they're just so inconsistent.
