So, To The Point That Supposedly The 8th Overall Should Be An Immediate All-Pro, Here's A List Of The Last Ten 8th Overall Picks

Not many “far from” elite players lead the league in anything.  Beasley is a top pass rusher.  Not giving him a gold jacket but dude is good.

PS: damn you for making me defend a falcon.

He led the league in sacks in a down year in the league last year yes, but most of those sacks came in like 2 games against terrible tackles. And the biggest thing is he plays zero run defense, and over-pursues half the time. And yes he had a lot of sacks but essentially zero pressure outside of those sacks. He gets sacks and then disappears on every other play that he's not getting a sack. He makes the most out of his sacks with a fair amount of strips but players who help you for 15-16 plays out of the year and disappear the rest are not even close to elite. The Panthers shut him the f*ck down last year and Wilson the other night made him look like a fool all night. Beasley just isn't very good.

RE @Zod well he's a slot WR and could be the best one. Give him 10 carries a game too why not? But really I think he's a slot WR in this offense because Cam isn't going under center for most of his snaps so I don't see us lining up in the I just for the CMC plays.

He could/should be a 1000 yard 5TD slot WR who can return punts and get like 50 rushing yards a game with a TD on a "cool" play here and there.

NE been doing it with great success with any grocery bagger RB that can decently catch.

Teams don't draft a slot receiver in the first round usually, let alone the top 10.

I think CMC will have a fine career and the Panthers could have done worse at pick 8. I'm just not sold that his production could not be found in later rounds and the Panthers address more pressing needs at pick 8.

the stats say he's not too good...

If he continues at the current pace with just 6 carries a game his final stats will be 91 catches 8 tds and about 1040 yards from scrimmage. Ok for a rookie I think. If they start giving him more carries the totals will be higher.

positional value really screws up the ranking list. it would be more fair to compare CMC to the 2nd RB taken in every draft the past ten years or so than to make a list like this.

2016 - Derrick Henry

2015 - Melvin Gordon

2014 - Jeremy Hill

2013 - Le'Veon Bell

2012 - Doug Martin

2011 - Ryan Williams

2010 - Ryan Matthews

2009 - Donald Brown

2008 - Jonathan Stewart

2007 - Marshawn Lynch

McC most compares to Le'Veon Bell, who really struggled in the run game his rookie year before exploding after that. Hoping the same happens. McC already ahead of him in the passing game.

Barnett or even Lattimore would be looking really really nice right now. Preferably Barnett because Lattimore does appear to be like Gronk injury-wise. But Barnett was a big reason for the Eagles spanking the Cowboys offense on Sunday. And he wasn't going against Bell he was going against the solid RT.

And nothing in this statement, one that I’ve said since before the draft, means CMC  is a bust. It’s just what he was drafted to be is being found  by every other team in the 3rd at earliest. Many are UDFA. If I take a RB with a top 10 pick, I shouldn’t have to think about using a 1st or 2nd on a RB for at least 5 years. We need to address it this upcoming draft. And if he’s a “slot WR”, which remains to be seen; that’s even worse, as you stated.

First of all comparing 8th overall selections from past drafts is dumb as hell considering every draft is different and the teams making those selections are different.

Secondly, this organization refuses to properly address offensive needs in FA. Had we gone Lattimore at 8 our offense would be even more screwed than it already is.

McCaffery has provided Cam with an outlet the majority of the time as well and that’s worth a lot. I’m guessing we’ll see some things open up for Christian with Olsen coming back too and his numbers will slowly start climbing.

After blowing his last 2 first rounders on Shaq (a luxury we could not afford) and Butler (a bust) I’ll make peace with McCaffery seeing Dave has set my expectations bar so low.

If there’s a pick from this draft you all should be mad about it’s the Curtis Samuel pick. You don’t go back to back gadget players especially one without hands. We needed a WR not Samuel.

Bell also lost 25 lbs. that off-season and completely transformed his body to the point he looked like a completely different player. People forget that Bell was 13 lbs. heavier than Eddie Lacy when they came out of college. So unless CMC is going to rebuild his entire body this off-season, this comparison isn’t really valid.

Certainly that was a factor, but his size has absolutely nothing to do with his main strength--his vision and patience when running. That wasn't there his rookie year as the game slowed down for him, but now it's the reason he's such a great running back. McCaffrey has shown he has similar vision and patience when running before and when the pro game slows down for him that'll come back.

what about what he was actually drafted to do... run the ball?

Are you sure they thought he was strictly a runner? Then why did the insist that Stewart was still the lead ball carrier? They knew Stewart couldn’t catch well so they needed a multi tool guy which they got. The only area which he has underperformed is yards per carry but so has the lead back with many more carries.

    • I'd be willing to wager most if not all of us have, at some point, found ourselves in a situation where we just stopped giving a sh-t. This is especially true when you realize the people leading your particular group or organization are incompetent.
