Peppers through week 5 2008 and 2009

I don't care. When has Peppers ever showed up in a big game when we need him? Of course he showed up today, games like today's are the perfect game for Peppers to show up, especially against a back-up tackle for the Redskins. Wow, only a top tier DE could accomplish that!

It was Hurney's fault through and through, Peppers just took advantage of the situation. Hurney said over and over that he 'doesn't let good players go' and throughout the entire time they were trying to sign Peppers(going back a couple years) they probably could have gotten a great deal for him. Look at what Jerry Jones gave up for Williams. Hurney stubbornly stuck to his guns and allowed Peppers to handcuff him.

Name one thing Peppers did that improved his odds of getting successfully traded.

You both have a point there. Now that I think of it, it seems like Peppers was merely trying to get a deal (or just didn't care if he stayed with the Panthers or not) and not actually looking for another team. Then again, that could be because he anticipated what ended up happening. Either way, I think I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he just didn't want to be in Carolina.

*looking foward to it*

Those are two good pictures of Hayden you've had.

Julius Peppers is one of our stars. In today's NFL, you don't let your stars leave, especially a top NFL talent like Julius Peppers. Every other NFL team in the NFL would kill (and pay just as much if not more) to have a talent like Julius Peppers. It's going to be hard to live up to the million a game expectation, but to have a player like Peppers on your team, that is just going to be what you pay.

Peppers can definitely work on his motivation and effort, but he's not the only DE to ever take plays off. It gets pretty tiring to put up that kind of effort consistently, especially with double teams, trips into coverage, and the ball being run at you play after play. There are not many DEs who can play three downs consistently throughout the entire game and still put up Pepper's usual annual production.

Want to compare that with his weekly pay?

I don't care about his stats, I care about his impact on the game week to week. I'm sick of him showing up one week and disappearing the next. When he influences every game enough to justify an entire offseason of handcuffing a team, then I'll say he's doing pretty good.

I wonder if we are really being fair though. IMO, every player has off games, and I don't think that Peppers has any more of them than most other above average defensive ends. I think that fans tend to have tunnel vision when it comes to their fav teams. They tend to think only their team has players who have off games.

Many things tend to effect a players play. The quality of the talent around him, the quality of the opposition, just to name a couple. Peppers didn't have any sacks against Dallas or Atlanta, and only one against Philly. But if you look at the numbers, nobody else is getting many sacks against those teams either.

I saw a stat a few days ago in which Jared Allen (who some think is the best dlineman in the league) had 7 games without a sack last year, while peppers only had 6.

Don't get me wrong, he isn't worth what we are paying him, but then again, I can't think of any other dlineman that is worth that kind of cash.

Sacks are certainly not the end all stat, but they are really the only way to measure a teams effectiveness at pressuring or protecting the passer. Everything else is opinions.

You know, you might be the most intelligent person on the board who doesn't B.S. in the process. I mean, there are plenty of guys here who screw around and make good points at the same time, but you get right to business, eh?
