Cam Newton Stats - Passing: Dispelling The Myth He’s A “Runningback Playing QB”

The running QB thing still gets tossed around quite a bit. It’s just an ignorant way of throwing shade at Cam.

Cam is probably the most unique QB in the game. I think you have to look at him differently when you judge his game. Is he as polished as I would like as a passer? Probably not but he’s shown he can put up 35 passing TDs.

If Cam was strictly a passing QB then he wouldn’t be utilizing the talent that makes him so dangerous. Sometimes the threat of his running ability also opens up the passing game. No other QB has that kind impact on the field.

Not only that but he has shown time and time again that the most important stat for him is wins.  He is a cheat code of a QB. Who is so dangerous that what he does on the field looks simple and cut and dry but really he is a master of his own game.

Cam has had plenty of weapons. Two 1,000 yard targets and a 1,000 yard back...2015 his weapons were good enough for the Super Bowl. Cam has been given the greatest weapon n of all that QBs like Brees and Brady never had, an elite defense. Can you imagine Brady with an elite defense. Or this QB with that or this or blah blah blah. Not every QB has a complete team and the elite ones don’t need it to win.

The only things Cam has not been given is a oline over the years. If you want to call Cam elite he is going to elevate players like Brady and Brees and make them look like weapons but in reality this forum blows up dumb poo about Cam and no weapons.

Oline a sub par coaching/scheme are the issues with Cam.

I’d like to submit into the evidence one Ted Ginn, Jr.   The defense rests, your honor.

lol no one says that. I generally find your posts to be entertaining and fairly informative but, here, your premise is flawed and your thread is unnecessary.

You think Vick was an rb that sometimes threw? He was a pretty good QB, especially that year he came back for Philly - Actually, his completion percentage that year was higher than any that Cam has ever posted. There rushing yards per season looks the exact same aside from two years where Vick posted 900 and 1000.

Edit: I will agree with you on the notion that there isn't much happening in this organization that is helping him out.

For today’s supposed “Michael Vick” - a runningback who throws sometimes - Cam Newton has been doing great so far in his career.

So far, Cam Newton has played in 103 career NFL games. His passing yards have landed him in the top 15 all time for other quarterbacks in the same timespan.

As far as passing yards before quarterbacks pass the age of 29, he beats our Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning, Ben Rothlisberger, Phillip Rivers, and Tom Brady to name a few.

He only needs 176 passing yards to surpass Brett Favre in this category.

Just this past Monday night, he surpassed Archie Manning for career passing yards. He’s on pace to creep into the top 20 or higher by the end of his career.

Reminder: if Cam Newton had 2011’s level of talent around him every year, his passingn stats would be beyond the roof and near unfair. So many drops, incompletions, and bad mistakes by his poor cast, and he’s still putting up monster numbers.

Let’s appreciate the fact that Cam Newton’s our QB.

Archie Manning and Dan Marino were the Cam Newton of there times. Good QB's with little talent around them.

Will this board EVER stop trying to defend Cam, hush his critics, or debate anyone who talks smack against him? Jesus. We have an amazing QB. Can't we just enjoy what he does for the team? When will the inferiority complex this board is seemingly saturated with end?

No, no, no. Yes. Yes. Never.

Brady's never had an elite defense?  Lol what?

Brady's had a top 10 defense for most of his career bro.  Some crazy poo like 13 years he's had a top 10 defense to back him up.  Several of those years it was top 3 in the league or outright the best in the league.

Brady has also had the greatest thing a QB could ever have his entire career too.  An elite head coach.  And not just any elite head coach... but possibly the greatest fuging head coach of all time.

And Brees had a pretty damn elite defense in 2013.  It was like top 3 or top 4 in nearly every category that year IIRC.  They finished 11-5, 2nd place in the division and got knocked out in the divisional round.  Had a top 5 defense in 2010 and finished 2nd place in the division, 11-5 and knocked out in the wildcard round.

Hell, speaking of coaches I'd take Mr. Vicodin over Rowboat Ron any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Even though they filmed our poo and cheated you can see the Pats defense who shut us down in the first half of the SB. They win by FG...seems like a defensive game to me. They also played this team called the Greatest Show on Turf....you don't beat TGSoT with trash defense.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
