A Breakdown of Matt Kalil’s Improving Play (gif loaded)

Great article. He seems to have steadied his play lately, but I think vs elite pass rushers we will see him get beat with speed. Sorry for the pessimism.

Luckily we don't face too many good LDEs outside of Wilkerson in NY and Danielle Hunter in MIN. Not really elite, but may give him problems.

Also, D. Williams is having a good season. Seems to be holding up on the right side decently.

That's the best and most informative breakdown I've seen from RR.

It is so crazy how everything feeds off of each other.  With the improved run game that forces defenses to be on the field longer, makes them more tired, and also doesn't allow them only to focus on pass rush.

Also, that LASER from cam to shepard was amazing.

Shepard looked like he caught a bullet in the shoulder

Griffen and Hunter will tell us right away whether Kalil and William’s are serviceable enough to get by.

He has certainly been playing better...but Cam has also been releasing the ball much faster or just taking off to run if nothing is there.  Earlier in the season when he was asked not to run, it exposed the OL even more.

Which is what Shula should have been doing for the past 2 years (at least, and before 2015) knowing our OLINE was complete garbage.

As a dual threat QB Cam does not need a 'deep threat' to the extent that people make it out to be.

Lmao. I don’t copy Vincent’s stuff for my stuff. Don’t know why you want to keep going on about that. I always give credit when it’s due.

I love Vincent’s work. Really good guy who, as FreeFua said, is very good at what he does. I shared a lot of his articles with credit to him all the time, as I do with anything I take from another source.

So I really don’t get why FreeFua acts like I’ve ever stolen his stuff lmao.

For my own input, I do disagree that Matt Kalil’s franchise left tackle caliber yet. On long plays, the Panthers often opt to max protect. When they do often leave Matt Kalil on an island on those plays, he’s been beat quite a bit.

One thing Matt Kalil lacks is power. He can be beat by other defensive linemen over-powering him, and that’s been his main issue. He’s also bound to make a few mistakes here and there that basic offensive linemen should be able to correct. While some can be argued to him getting used to scheme, some have truly been real wtf moments that’s hard to defend.

But I will admit, he’s been improving, and that’s all you can ask for. However, I’ll save the “franchise tackle” aspect until we actually stop using max protect on every deep play we try.

I just can't wait till we win the Superbowl and Josh Norris has to eat crow for acting like such a baby this offseason

He LOVED the McCaffery pick.

And in his defense we did have a pretty crappy offseason. What was he complaining about exactly?

Huh?

He’s been pretty high on McCaffrey and Samuel and the Panthers future in general.

You guys are asking me what he was complaining about in a thread about Matt Kalil lol

He had a meltdown on twitter like a teenage dude when we signed him
