We've had enough Batman films. The problem with Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman is that they couldn't carry a solo film without Justice League first, I think.

Flash definitely could, Idk about the other two though.

 

they made captain America and Thor solo films before avengers and that worked.

Captain America is more widely known, imo, and Thor is a bigger draw than Aquaman for sure.  He might be on the level with Flash. I prefer DC over Marvel, I'm just thinking in terms of popularity and name recognition. Also the two Hulk films. But Hulk is probably more popular than Cap. They didn't do any prior standalone films before X-Men, proof that it can be done.

As far as introducing characters to a wider audience, we all know about Batman and Supes.

I'd argue that before the MCU, Iron Man, Cap and Thor were B listers within Marvel. 

 

Spidey, X-Men and Hulk were the most popular marvel heroes.

Other than Batman, none of the Justice League members have been great solo sells, I don't think.  I know Aquaman took off when they started making him act like Lobo.

The flash definitely has more name recognition and popularity than aquaman or cyborg. 

 

The CW tv show has made flash a huge name and definitely could have had a stand alone film before JL and done well. 

 

Cap and thor weren’t on same level respectively. Ant man, gotg, Thor, are proof that the general audiences are capable of showing out to lesser known comic book movies and them doing well. 

 

Cyborg also has the the added effect of having been seen by millions of kids-young adults from Teen titans for years.

Ant Man is still an afterthought, and came after the first Avengers film, right? He's not even remarkable enough to make fun of like Aqauaman.

Too bad they fuged Green Lantern up about as badly as they could have. He's probably on par with Cap as far as name recognition/popularity.

Marvel studios original plan was to have ant man as the first movie from their studio instead of iron man. 

Even if t came after the avengers having an obscure character like ant man in an origin movie do well is proof enough to me The flash could do a stand alone and be fine. Especially with the success of the tv show

IMO, Marvel was smart in how they handled their more obscure characters.  They took their time establishing their universe and then peppered them in.  

 

Theres is no doubt in my mind that people would go see a Flash or an Aquaman movie, it just needs to be good

I'd rather see a good Green Lantern movie. Ant Man would have bombed if it had been the first film in the MU, and then we might not have gotten the rest.  I remember everyone being shocked that Iron Man did so well.

The thing with the movies is that it's not the characters, it's the actors and story.  Comic readers care about the characters, but non-comic readers just want a superhero movie that's fun, exciting, and a hero that's badass.  As long as the movie explains who they are and why we should care about them, they will be fine.  And the MCU has mastered all of that, which is why even their more obscure characters are successful.  

I think Jason Mamoa could absolutely pull that off as Aquaman as long as the story is solid.  He can carry off the humor with ease, but can kick ass with the best of them.  I'm actually really looking forward to seeing that.

I think an aquaman movie in general could be really cool if it's done right. Imagine how cool the visuals cou of potentially be with Atlantis and under water fights. 

 

Wan should really look into the New 52 run of the character (Trench and King of Atlantis arcs) as those would translate well into a movie.
