a gamble and added him as my third receiver on my fantasy team.  Huge payoff 21pt.

He doesn't lumber after the catch like KB does.  He has a good second gear and I won't be surprised if he cracks a 1000 going down the stretch.

His 2nd TD tonight was very nice.  Back shoulder.  Caught it and turned on the jets.   Great play by both Cam and Funchess.

Good point about Devin's YAC tonight. I think most of us would agree that KB could have caught the passes Cam threw to Funchess, but he wouldn't have been able to turn those receptions into TD's last night.

Devin is in his 3rd year, but he's only 23. As he physically matures and gains confidence he should only get better.

I hope he keeps it up.

And then I hope someone finds all the "get rid of Funchess" threads and posts from preseason and we get to rub it in everyone's faces for being chicken littles and not letting one of the youngest guys from the 2015 draft class develop.

He's finally as old as KB was during his Rookie year, and is playing even better in my opinion.

Funchess looks so smooth out there...looks like a true #1.  I think he can truly be great if he keeps this up.  His body size, catch radius, fluidness, route running, and ball tracking reminds me a lot of Terrell Owens.

Interesting analysis. If he could develop into 75% of the player that Owens was we'd be set at one WR spot for the next decade. There is one main difference between the two (at this point in Devin's career at least). TO was a more physical player. He was tough to bring down in the open field and a great run blocker. If Devin improved in those areas we'd have a real BEAST in Carolina.

Exactly. I don’t see why people give up on players so quickly. If players have the measureables, A LOT of them come into their own in their 3rd year.

If you you don’t like the taste of crow, wait until year 3 before you call someone a bust.

He’s got the burst and quickness that KB just did not have.

He definitely seems to be settling in as #1. The back shoulder throw/catch/TD was a thing of beauty. Need to see more of that...it’s near impossible to defend when executed properly. Rodgers has made a living off of that throw.

You can see that the game is slowing down for funchess right now and he's a much more diverse receiver than KB was.  It seems like he has the ability to run more routes and be effective than what KB did.  It also doesn't seem like we're forcing the ball to him either, he seems much more natural.

I think you hit the nail on the head. No matter what field a person pursues in life, no one knows everything when they start a profession/new job. It takes time to become acclimated to your new setting and to hit your stride. Some people are able to do this fairly quick. Others take a little more time.

Everything is starting to gel for Devin. I think the same thing is starting to happen for Cmac too. He's looked much better running the ball the past 2 games. I think we'll start seeing him make more big plays in the run game in the 2nd half of the year and next season.

I couldn't help but smile when I read your post. I've played quite a bit of franchise mode on Madden football. The 1st round choices are considered "disappointments" or "underachievers" if they aren't dependable starters by their 3rd season.

Devin is now in his 3rd season. He's seeing the field more than he has in the past and is showing that he was worth the 2nd round pick we invested in him.

I have suggested in the past that Funchess is more of a Mushin Muhammed.  Big possession receiver with deceptive speed.  The stats are eerily similar.

Moose

Yr. 1: 25-407-1

Yr. 2: 27-317-0

Yr. 3: 68-941-6

Funchess

Yr. 1: 31-473-5

Yr. 2: 23-371-4

Yr. 3: 69-856-8

If Funchess had the career of Muhammed, I'd be a happy camper.

Wasn't Moose also a 2nd round draft choice?
