Was a fair catch called?

If a player is engaged in a block with another player and that leads to the opposing player running into his teammate, then it is what it is.

Ill paste it again so Zod understands it.

Here is what referee Walt Coleman said of the play: “What happened was the two guys were blocking each other. The Washington guy got blocked into his own man so there was no interference. All we had to do was figure out who touched it first. If the Washington player is stationary and standing there and not trying to block, then he can’t do that. If they are both trying to block then he can knock him into him. Because they were both engaged then that’s why there wasn’t a foul or anything wrong with the play. If the Washington player is stationary and just standing there and the Carolina player had come down there and had knocked him, then it would have been totally different.”

It's the same line of reasoning that makes it illegal to rough a kicker but ok to shove a teammate back into him.

The guy engaged into a block right near Randle-El and Teal (I think) made a really heads up play and shoved him back, causing the muff.

Legal as all get out.

but if a fair catch is called there should be no blocking at all as the ball could not be advanced.

Not true either.... the receiving team can block players to try and prevent them from downing the ball near the goaline (If the punt returner moves out the way after calling a fair catch)... Or the players blocking for the receiving team may not be aware his own teammate called a fair catch. In the case it's not the punting team for they're poor awareness! The punting team shouldn't just get blocked and do nothing back....
