Why Are We Still Missing A Deep Shot Passing Game?

Why do people think our offense looked better?  Granted, we ran the ball a little better, but the offense still only managed to get 13 points on its own and another 7 after the defense picked off Ryan and gave them a very short field.    The passing attack was, and we couldn't keep the ball after the last atlanta td, when doing so would have won the game for us.  I loved the win, but it was almost all defense, just like the Tampa game.

Regarding the lack of deep shots, we did actually take one somewhat deep shot, to Kaelin Clay.  I think we got called for Offensive interference, or would have had the ball not been ruled uncatchable.  I think we will take more as the season progresses.  Whether they net us much is anyone's guess.

simply put we do not have a consistent deep threat, we took some shits deep but overthrows or lack of separation has been an issue.

Threw one to clay last sunday but he wasn't in any position to make a play on the ball, our guys aren't getting behind the defense.

but to there defense when they do get behind the defense the ball is over thrown.

hoping more reps fixes this issue

It is the lack of a running game.

Deep passes happen when you catch safeties flat-footed because they are thinking about their run fits.

Sometimes, it is a chicken and egg thing.  Run game also opens up when the safties bail and are worried about getting beat deep.  But, I'd mostly say its the run game issues.

i thought the plan was to move away from that. when we did it, we weren't doing it well (at least this year and a lot of last).

we were supposed to be moving from a low percentage passing game to a higher one and i think we kind of started doing that more consistently.

run game got some traction this week, whether it's sustainable is something we'll have to wait and see on, but if it is then we might see some deeper stuff open up but i think the evolution is taking hold a little.

less big plays and more "just move the chains" plays.

just an idea...

It's not 100%, it doesn't take long for speedsters to get down feild. Maybe with KB and Funch it took a while. Usually with a go Cam and the receiver get the ball out at the end of his drop back.

That is assuming they have faith in the OL to give Cam enough time for a 5 or 7 step drop back, and survey the field to make sure the WR has actually beaten his man deep, before throwing it and hopefully not getting hit as he throws or the ball batted by a DL. I've seen Cam more often than not be under duress at the ends of his drop backs where he can't even set his feet and instead is forced to step up, to the side, or spin out of a sack.

Just not confident the OL can protect long enough when defenses bring any kind of pressure.

IMO, the lack of chemistry is the biggest issue. I mean, how many reps does he have with Clay, and he got the only deep pass I remember from Sun.. The same with Samuel. When the chemistry starts to click, maybe the deeper throws will come.

Yeah, with Benji traded and Olsen on IR, Cam only targeted 6 players on Sunday and only 3 of them made catches!!

I've just gone back and reviewed all games since Cam arrived in 2011. Only one other time did he have fewer than 5 players catching passes - our playoff loss to San Fran in 2013, when 4 players recorded catches.

3 players making catches is just shockingly low... Definitely suggests Chemistry is not quite there with some of the new guys.

Dang, I hadn't thought of that. But, I also hope that it isn't true. If his shoulder is still sore. He is hiding it well. But then again, IMO, his throwing motion looks different this year. Is that me? Or does anyone else see that?

His throwing motion does look different to me. I thought I was going crazy
