We are number 1 in time of possession, it’s good and bad

It’s good - we keep our defense fresh and we are able to keep drives alive

 

Its bad - Our offense can never get in rhythm, we snap the ball with one second left which helps the opposing defense know the snap count and can also lead to delay of game.

No joke, it is actually good news that we are doing a good job of this, will pay off in the long run too. but it is just as telling that our offense hasnt produced more with all that time on their hands.

Not good Great news this is a winning stat we've stumbled offensively on a couple crazy things picks and fumbles that are asinine and as much as we've struggled to consistently run the ball we still control games if the change is in the cards to get CMC a few more running touches and not up the dam middle and from his Presser getting Cap a few more touches rushing we might actually start to show what we can be. A multi attacking ground control offense Stew may need to step back a game or some time in a game to refocus I thought it was terrible Run blocking which we do see but insert Cap he gets positive yards Run CMC anywhere but up the middle he gets positive yards with these terrible blockers maybe we should try to change the the one piece that we haven't changed the main runner.

It's a great stat. If you can't score at least you eat the clock. At least there is hope and not everything needs to be fixed

My thoughts exactly. We should have scored 30 on the Falcons. That’s what scares me so much about this team. Moves the ball for a whole half of a quarter twice  and only comes away with 6 points. Julio catches that TD and both those drives are erased. Ugh.

Yeah, without digging deeper into the numbers, just from watching, the issue is, we can possess the ball for long periods, yet ultimately accomplish very little with it.  It's good that it keeps the defense fresh, and for that reason we need to keep it up.  The problem is once we get into the opponent's territory, specifically in the red zone.  It's a Shula trademark...  remember the record setting 20-play drive last season that ended in a punt?  lol.

It'd be better if we could get to the line with a play early and let Cam make audibles/changes at the line and THEN snap the ball with 3-7 seconds left on the play clock rather than time running off as we rush to the line to struggle to get the snap off predictably with 1 second on the play clock.

It is like we are using our own strategy against us! The 'bend but don't break' defense we were known for during the 15-1 season where we'd never give up a big play and force teams to get 6-7 first downs in order to score. Sooner or later a mistake will be made resulting in a turnover. 

Ball control is great but I don't know if our offense is good enough to sustain 14-15 play drives without making a mistake which is what happened in the colossal meltdown that was the Bears game.

Ball control isn't that good for our offense IMO, Cam has always been better if he can snap the ball faster.

We lead the league in time of possession primarily because we are 4th in total first downs and 5th in 3rd down conversion percentage despite being 21st in total offense. 

Laugh all you want, but year in and year out Mike Shula is quite possibly the most unpredictable play caller in the entire NFL. He knows how to move the chains. He knows Panther Football.

And he is particularly good on 3rd down.

Yeah, good points.  I think the huge TOP is also indicative of another problrm that has plagued our offense this season - No big plays, or at least very, very, very few of them.  If we could produce big yardage plays/longest TDs, the TOP obviously wouldn't be as much as it is.  So, again, it's a double edged sword.  We need to start getting plays from guys with YAC and break some big gains, or simply score before we reach the red zone at the very least.  Sometimes holding the ball just to hold it leads to mistakes as you mentioned and ir defeats the purpose of offense in general - to score.

Yeah hopefully when Olsen gets back we improve that. If only Rivera would keep on the Gas in the 4th we would make a 10 point deficit insurmountable.
