11-5 or fire Rivera

I still can't believe that. New Orleans kicked our ass and the eagles are damn good so I can accept those two losses. The bears one felt like 3 losses

That was definitely the low point of the  season.  I was in a funk for almost a week after watching that game. I'm glad the team has bounced back because I was ready to write them off after that demoralizing loss.

Chargers fired schottenheimer after 14-2

That was shockingly bad decision. At that time of his dismissal San Diego arguably had the most talented roster in the NFL. To make matters worse Chargers replaced him with Norv Turner (great offensive mind...mediocre head coach). San Diego...oops LA... has been on a stready decline ever since.

BTW, was Ron Rivera coaching the defense during the Schottenheimer era or did he come later?

San Diego has posted an 86-82 record with 3 Head Coaches since who is now straddled with an aging franchise QB, a disastrous move to a different home city and no lack of foundation to build upon as a football team for the foreseeable future. The last time that they had stability and direction as a football team was under Marty. The irony, here, is that the Chargers SHOULD have hired Rivera if they were to make the foolish choice of parting with Marty when they did.

Rivera's CV needs no defense: He was a College FBall All-American, an All-Pro in the NFL who played on arguably the greatest team of all time, has built Top 3 defenses at three different teams as a Coach and is now a 2-time NFL Coach of the Year with a Super Bowl under his belt in his first Head Coaching gig - as the saying goes...the guy forgot more football than the combined knowledge of the supposed detractors on this site will ever know. The fact that the team won a game today against their biggest rival to go to 6-3 in a very competitive and balanced NFL while the majority of the voices in this forum are from fools who are angling to figure out how to get Rivera fired is literally laughable.

What established and proven Head Coach would even sniff at the Carolina job to follow Rivera if he were to be fired with his record thus far?! The Panthers are a small-market team that would have fired a proven Head Coach in the NFL who has won under three separate Front Office regimes in his relatively short tenure. The Panthers would end up with Dabo Sweeney who would then proceed to learn very quickly that the gulf between D1 NCAA Football and the NFL is substantial one.

This forum is a curious echo chamber of foolishness to me. Every fanbase has it's vocal whiners who use "their" football team as a substitute for the shortcoming in their own lives, of course, but my sense is that this website is the largest Panthers forum fan and yet the whining in this echo chamber is nonpareil amongst fan sites imo. Fortunately, there does appear to be reasonably calm and serious fans on this site as a counterbalance to the foolishness that runs amok even on a winning day.

@GusLevy Rivera maybe has forgotten more football than we will ever know, but that could also be the CTE kicking in...

Also, if the Panthers go 10-6 and lose in the first round of the playoffs, the season was a failure. End of story. This team, it's star players, and supposed solid coaching staff should be able to win games and get to championships. The expectations are rightfully high, and when you do not meet expectations you should be shown the door.

Has any team ever fired a coach after an 11-5, 2 years removed from a Super Bowl appearance and MVP quarterback season?

Yeah the Broncos when they axed John Fox, the season after iirc.

But they have an owner who wants to win so

Anyway he answer is: it's hard to say. Depends on how we lose.

If we make the playoffs and lose a close, well coached game after the rest of the season being realtively smart, sure. Bring em back.

I'm at the point where I know despite his fault, Rivera is a good coach. Problem is can he actually adapt and grow.

First off, i want to start by saying I expected a 6-3 record at this point in the season. I just expected losses to ATL, NE, and TB heading into the season. Most people might agree those 3 teams were supposed to be much better than current.

So, we are 6-3 with our defense having faced the following QB's:

1. Brady

2. Wentz

3. Brees

4. Ryan

5. Tyrod

6. Stafford

I won't list the 2 non-QBs from SF and CHI. The point is, against the top QBs in the league, the defense has been pretty darned great.

With games upcoming against:

1. Jay Cutler or Matt Moore

2. Josh McCown

3. Case Keenum or Sam Bradford

4. Brett Hundley

5. Jameis or Ryan Fitzpatrick

6. Brees

7. Ryan

There is zero excuse if this team can't win a minimum of those first 5 games with the defense playing this way.

I can understand getting beat by Ryan and Brees at the end, but 11-5 should be the bare minimum from this point out, or Rivera should be fired. Those QB situations are dumpster fires. And if you show up big and beat New Orleans to go 12-4, you likely have a #3 seed and home game in round 1 against the Rams. Rivera must make sure the team is prepared, motivated, and the coaching staff too. Keep leaning on McSamuel in both the running and passing games, as clearly those 2 guys can move the chains. Keep the defense healthy, rested,  and playing at a high level against these scrub QBs, and there's no reason not to EXPECT 11 wins at a minimum. Anything less, and Ron is Gone!

I'm so happy to see the pitchforks and torches have finially reach the ludicrous level.

They want to be the Browns they just want admit it. A lot of transplant from Cleveland area??? We lost a game fire everybody we won a game fire everybody.  A retired LB from one of the best defenses ever, playing it close to the chest and relying on defense to win.

Im not sure its the record or what we do in the playoffs that matter.  If we go 11-5 and then lay a major egg in our first playoff game, I can see RR getting fired.  But, if we go 9-7 and make it to NFC Championship, I can see RR here another year
