Some General Thoughts and Future Implications of Our Young WR Core

Troy Fumagalli (or Mark Andrews) should be our heir to Olsen.

Our issues on offense is label focused and usage.

If we want be big physical receivers. Get rid of the Possession WR role and add more TEs in the mix imo. Calling @sanjay_rajput ;)

Our roster needs to be a good mix:

3 TE (Olsen, Fumagalli/Andrews (2018 draft), Manhertz)

2 Hybrid TE/FB (Dickson, Armah)

2 Powerbacks (Freeman (2018 draft), Cap or JStew (camp competition)

1 Scatback Fozzy

2 Hybrid RB/WR (CMC, Curtis)

3 Speed WR (Taylor Gabriel (FA), Russell Sheppard, Byrd)

Formation recommendation (Pistol with an Auburn Malzahn's offense mix)

X            X  XXOXX

                         X

Depending on packages and substitutions, this formation would max potential.

Mix Package:

Olsen lined up wide, Troy close to Online but not on it (chip n go player if need to be), Fozzy deep back, CMC to the right of Cam and Curtis to the left.

Or

Heavy Package

Olsen lined up wide, Troy close to Online but not on it, Freeman the deep back, Armah to the right of Cam and Dickson to the left.

Or

Nasty bad ass speed

Gabriel lined up wide, Sheppard close to Online but not on it (chip n go player if need to be), CMC deep back, Curtis to the right of Cam and Byrd to the left.

So many combos with this.

Tbh to evolve is to be outside the box and challenge conventional wisdom and follow your own path. Which I know this may never happen.

I know everyone complains of a TE driven offense that can run instead of a traditional WR (superstar) driven offense that can run. Who the hell cares if your lead receiver is a TE? Winning is all that counts. Use cheap speed receivers that have been developed to stretch fields/change of pace and TEs as the load carriers/driving force.

This is different but TEs take a while to develop. We have 2: Dickson and Thor. Manhertz has improved as the season as progressed and should be better next season. Draft Fumaglli or Andrews to be groomed. Five possible TE (hybrids) with Thor, draft pick, Manhertz, Dickson and Armah. Curtis and CMC to be hybrid change of WR/RB types. Gab (FA pick up), Shep and Byrd as quick and burner mix.

This to solve multiple fronts of defense stand up rusher driven league, poor offensive line blocking, more TE to make for a more physical/diverse team.

I say go big and revolutionize or crazy and burn as mediocre.

This is the worst WR roster on paper that we've ever had. Yes, worse than '15.

Hopefully this move will free up Funchess or Samuel or Shepard to really step up, but we'll see.

Yeah, it's a pretty shocking list in terms of lack of experience, especially since Greg is on IR..

IF somehow magic happens, it will be incredible for future with this youth and lots of room to only get better, but I'd be lying if I said I was confident!

If we play Shepard and Funch as our starting receivers I fuging give up man.

Samuel has to be on the field as a speed threat for the majority of the snaps. Other teams D’s are not as dumb as Shula. They see Samuel randomly come in for a play they’re going to adjust.

You have to play Samuel and Funch with Shepard playing slot if we are trying to replicate the success we had in 2015. If we start Shepard the KB trade was pointless.

Pissibly the worst wr group in the league

No man, we are the worst.  I mean in such a huge way.  Fantasy Football isnt real life but its clear who produces and who doesnt.  Not 1 fuggin WR or really offensive player outside of Cam is worth starting right now.  None.. Which means Cam isnt either unless u have no QBs.

I mean really Cam is carrying us on offense.  Hoping this turns around when Thor gets back.

Benji was the one guy even close..lol.  Hurney trades him.  Jesus.
