He'd have to absolutely kill it in the 2nd half of the season and pratically double his usual per game receiving totals, and probably do much better rushing as well. Too much to ask for with our shotty online this year and dubious playcalling.

How does 3rd down conversion percentage correlate to NFL victories? 

This season from 1-10 in 3rd down conversion percentage:

LA Rams 5-2

Phi Eagles 7-1

NE Pats 6-2

Car Panthers 5-3

Dal cowgirls 4-3

Sea Hawks 5-2

Minn Vikes 6-2

Buff Bills 5-2

G.B. Pack 4-3

KC Chiefs 6-2

Said it all year, and 2014 shows it too.....takes Carolina awhile to solve the defensive looks they face with no Ginn. They finally did at the end of 2014.  They look to be forcing the issue now and given Shula no choice but to bust the coverages.  That will open up CMC.  Because right now, all defenses are doing is playing CMC and Cam. 

Once we force teams out of those defensive overages they have played all year....things will change. 

 

 

    I was wondering how this post was going to be received. And for the most part, I was not disappointed. 

 

    Too bad folks are just too frustrated to realize this very well could happen. Those passes that were going to KB are now going to go to WRs who have more speed, and wiggle. Samuel, and Shepard could both get chunk plays if they continue to see single coverage. Safetys are going to have to back up now.

 

    CmC, Samuel, Shepard all are going to see more targets. That should make a yuge difference on how teams defend us.

Its unlikely that cmc will see more unless he lines up at wr or our wr's can't get open.

Fwiw, he already has more targets already than any running back in the NFL.  If the number of targets he gets per game increases even more, its pretty much an indication that Hurney was wrong and we aren't stretching the field. Unless as I said, he starts lining up at wide receiver/Slot receiver.

    I don't get how CmC getting more targets is an indictment on anyone? If the kid deserves the targets, and he does, then get him the ball.

 

    I would not be upset if CmC was used more in the slot. There are plenty of ways to get him involved. With him, Samuel, and Shepard on the field together. That is a lot of speed and wiggle.

 

    I like CmC as a RB more than at Slot. At RB he is going to be covered by LBs. That is a mismatch we need to exploit. 

 

    IMO, I am stoked to see how this all plays out. Funch, Samuel, Shepard are all capable of making plays. And I for one can't wait to see that.

Hurney's reasoning for getting rid of KB was to get more speed on the field in the wide receiver spot.  CMC already has more targets than our wide receivers do, and many of them are checkdowns. If we are throwing even more 5 yard passes to CMC, then it would seem to indicate the replacements aren't getting open and Hurney's plan didn't succeed.
