Sneak Peak: Why Kelvin Benjamin Was Traded, And Why The Panthers Could Be Better Because Of It

How many 3rd rounders do you see putting up 900-1000 yards ever year? stop it...

15 of the 34 players who had over 1000 yards last season were drafted in the 3rd round or beyond.

That's still a lower percentage than those who are not. I'm not saying it's impossible but the further back you go in the draft the less your chances of hitting are going to be.

Great Post Saca!!!

Those that think we could have had a higher value for KB need a reality check.   KB was good but not great.  There isn't a team in this league that would cough up a 1st round pick for a this former first round pick.   Like a new car once you drive it off the lot you ain't getting the same value as you paid for it.  Just isn't going to happen.  I would have been content with a 3rd but Hurney also got us a 7th to go with it.  Who knows what we will find in that player.

It makes sense to get rid of one or the other.  KB or Funchess.  I think Funchess is a bit faster and probably still has a higher ceiling that KB.   My initial reaction was WTF but it makes sense.  I think Shepard will move into the #1 or #2 role.   IMO there really isn't much of a difference between the two at this point.   Shepard needs the opportunity to shine as well as Samuel.

Could it bite us in the ass, most definitely.  Shepard and Samuel could fall flat on their faces but it isn't like our passing offense was leading the league and we dumped our best receiver.   I will at least give them props for trying.

I usually am a very optimistic poster and try to look at the good in every draft pick and free agent move.  Some validate my optimism some don't but to get all worked up and angry over losing a player via a trade is immature.

Let's hope it pans out and our offense starts to click.   We have arguably the best defense in the league and if we can get our offense clicking.  Even enough for 20-25 points a game we have an opportunity to run the table.  (yeah I last week I posted a 5-11 finish)

Good Luck and Go Panthers

Samuel and Shepard are not excellent route runners, not even in the least. Great route runners are not cast off free agents

You have hated Benjamin from the get go even though he has out produced your lover boy Funchess. The problem with this offense is has more to do with Cam force feeding Mccaffrey and Funchess then it does Kelvin

The biggest issue is still the value we got.  He was a proven first rounder and we got a 3rd and 7th.  You can't cherry coat or change that.

I do think Funchess was the right one to keep of the two as much as the anti-Funch faction may hate it.

If Funchess-Samuel somehow works fairly quickly, then this will start to look somewhat ok but man, I'm just going to be ugh until I see this unit play again.

But understand that many thought he shouldn’t have been a first rounder. Gman reached big time.  Just because we drafted him in the first doesn’t mean he carries a first round value.

just look how many former first rounders have been traded for much lower picks.  We weren’t going to keep KB anyways, so might as well get something for him.

Samuel is going to be better than Funchess it’s gonna be rehash of the Smitty & LaFell days

Sorry, I just can't get on board with this Pollyanna view of the trade.

The Hurney line is BS.

Hurney tells us that it's been discussed for months, didn't pursue the trade, presented the opportunity they took it, now expect the offense to improve because they'll be able to inject more speed (while not adding any speed mind you).

If all of this is true, Hurney and the coaching staff have confirmed their utter incompetence.  If KB and lack of speed, limited route tree, etc. is your problem, why weren't you trying to fix it yourself? Why wait for the phone to ring and make a last minute decision.  If you needed to inject speed, why not plan ahead and try to get something now?  Hurney thinks we're all stupid but he really is an absolute bafoon that we're going to be stuck with for a long while. This is the type of moronic move made by a guy that has no concerns about getting fired.

I'm confused as to why you think the Panthers were just sitting there and the Bills called with this idea and Hurney took it. Is it just because it happened right before the deadline that's making you assume this?

I don't get why people are stuck on the picks.

You have to ignore he was a first round pick. He's not a true wr1, and we got a 3rd and 7th for him.

That actually is pretty good value,

Beat that horse if you want, but I'd suggest ya move on.

I'm not buying this BS.  There was no plan to change approach ever.  Ron and company have no clue on how to maximize the production of their personnel and it's obvious.  They got caught napping and now they are making excuses to why they traded KB.  But you keep polishing that turd my friend.

That's his shtick, dude.  He makes predictions, says stupid stuff like this on here and gets away with it.  It's super annoying.

And, you know something Jon Snow!
