Steve Smith: "There are routes that those two guys (Benjamin/Funchess) can't run. So if you have the same two guys running the same routes it limits your offense and route tree."

Maybe the other answer is— KB/Funch are better suited as #2. Paying KB #1 money isn’t worth it for a 2 because we have a younger cheaper 2 who is filling out to meet that role. Meanwhile, the #1 will be CMC/Samuel.

KB had more trade value so trade him and also use it to reorganize the depth chart.

Great insight from Steve. Basically saying because Benjamin (and in effect Funchess) are limited in their routes, the offense is extremely predictable. "If you become predictable...defenses start to pin their ears back. You can play action all you want, at the end of the day, they know it's going to be short and sweet and it's going to be a possession type of game. If you're not in the endzone, a 6'5 WR core isn't going to get it done outside of the redzone. You can't get there by taking ten minutes to get there. Sometimes you need a fast dash type of play."

Yeah most get that part of it but the answer isn’t to trade the better one of the two.

Obviously Funchess has no trade value but that still doesn’t mean you trade the one that does. There’s a reason why KB has trade value.

Im benching Funchess before trading KB

the problem is that beane knew he was dealing with a gambling addict in hurney.

he kept dangling that carrot out and probably made his greatest push at the end and hurney just couldn't resist.

all we're going to see now is him trying to justify it.

This

My problem is not the trade per se, but the timing and the fact that we got NOTHING for him. If the issue was adding more speed, you can do that with KB and/or Funch riding the bench. This reeks of trying to cover for Shula's incompetence and Hurney's fuggery of this team

Hello

Hey Mike, it's Ron. Listen, if I see KB and Funchess on the field together you are fuggin fired. Good talk.

Click.

Problem solved without hurting depth a great deal.

that would require a spine. ron's got a ramen noodle.

I believe most people agree with this.

It seems, instead of KB being traded, many think it should have been Funchess traded.

Funchess really earned my respect in that New England game. He was clearly cramping and made a clutch catch on 3rd down. He does get a few offensive PI calls but if your that big and don't get a few of them you aren't really fighting for the ball
