Kelvin Benjamin was the only offensive player defenses had to scheme around

There is something else to consider. Next season KB's cap hit goes from 2.4 to 8.4 million in his final year under contract. For months and months everyone on here wondered how we would be able to re-sign Star, Norwell and Peppers. Now maybe we can.

This has been largely ignored -- progress on a much needed, cheaper-hit extension was clearly nonexistent. Not a great trade, but not the calamity that some are making it out to be.

Like i said in another thread, kb or funchess had to go, drafting both was a mistake. 3rd and more then 5 yards is hard to complete when your wideouts can't get in and out of there breaks fast enough. neither have the speed to to keep defense honest either, I just wish they would have made a move to get someone in here while shipping kb out

Who else demands bracketed coverage? Who else sniffs a thousand yards and 10TDs a year?

Benjamin was popular on the team. Early reports seem to indicate this did not go over well.

Did he have an attitude problem? Good coaching would've fixed it. Trading a player is an easy out. No third rounder will do for us what Benjamin did.

This is a lance through the heart of the 2017 Carolina Panthers, and possibly Cam's career with us.

I can't disagree.

Before now, Cam has been required to not only pass the ball, but to be the primary rusher as well.

Maybe with this move they're going to expect him to be the primary receiver as well.

It wouldn't surprise me considering the Dumbass Triplets at GM/HC/OC.

Eh it might work out. In 2015, Cam's MVP season, he didn't have KB for the entire season and went to the SB. It forced Cam to spread it around and he made heroes out of Ginn, Cotchery, and Philly Brown. The same might happen here if we put Samuel on the outside and CMC in the slot. Also, CAP looked impressive at RB this past week and could be JStew's primary backup. I'm not mad at the move.  It also saves us $8.25M in cap space for 2018.

I was just listenin to .. I think it's WFNZ.  Dre' Bly who was part of the saints, was talking about game planning.  He specifically mentioned that KB was someone you didn't have to plan around.  You can play off and just sit on routes.  He didn't have the speed to scare anyone and you sit on his inside routes on 3rd downs.

We all know it's true.  He wasn't a good fit, especially with Funchess who has similar body skill set.  We need speed on the field and he wasn't it.   Better to cut him now and get what we could because

1. We weren't franchising him.

2. We weren't picking up his fifth year option.

3. His only asset was he was big.

4. He had poor attitude /work ethic (out of shape )

5. He doesn't draw coverage or force double teams.

Getting a 3rd and 7th is a steal when you think about it rationally.  Maybe by tomorrow.

Can people stop using this bs logic. That was a one in a lifetime season, why do we continually ask Cam to make chicken salad out of chicken chit?? Why?

Plus our line was better, our running game was better and we had Ginn who can stretch the field and a healthy Olsen.

We already have a big slow wide out with better hands. KB very rarely caught the ball clean. Got shut down by smaller corners and very rarely fought for it on a 50/50 ball. Hopefully this will go back to 2015 where Cam will go thru his progression more instead of locking into KB.  And Stewart at HB WR1 Funchess slot CMC and Speedy wr at 2.  Because clearly 2 big slow WR’s wasn’t working.  But at this point I’m scratching my head and mumbling to myself, and trying to make since of what just happened but the best this team has ever been was the year KB went out with a knee. But deep down I know this is a boneheaded :poo: move. That even I can’t defend.   So let’s see what happens only the future can tell.  But if it turns out like I’m afraid it’s going to I’m gonna turn into Red and Tiger JR and fire every fuging body

Devin Funchess's hands and body control are so much worse than Kelvin's, it's not even up for debate. Just look at the drop percentage for his career, and then go look at highlights of both players careers. The highlights alone are night and day. Kelvin was a much more capable receiver than Funchess will ever be.

Please actually take a second to read and comprehend my posts.

I'm not defending the trade.

To be honest, the post he replied to was confusing because you had a quote from the guy you responded to without it being set apart by a quote box, so it looked like the quote was your own work.

When I first read that post and knowing you I was thinking WTF?  Then I remembered that quote from a previous post and I figured it out.

Once in lifetime season? Last I checked we had a better record in 2015 up to this point. So how did you have it playing out Nostradamus?

Our line was better?!?!!? Remmers, Oher....come on man.

We’re about to make the same mistake we did in 2010. Star and Norwell are about to get fat contracts.

Funchess HAS to turn his hands over and see the ball into his hands. Those are the only catches he can make. Funchess won’t be making any over the shoulder grabs or using his body to win jump balls (like KB did Sunday).

This is why Funchess is often given slants and posts, and Cam tries to put it in front of him vs over the shoulder. Sunday and against NE he went over shoulder and the ball hit the turf.

I honestly can’t believe Hurney just put his eggs in Funchess’ basket vs Benji.

Yes one in a lifetime, theirs no way in hell Cam can repeat that performance with those receivers all over again.

Remmers believe it or not is better than Kalil. So was Oher.
