8 games into a rookie season

DeAngelo Williams - 83 touches - 434 total yards, 1 total TD

Christian McCaffrey -98 touches - 495 total yards, 2 total TD

he is a rookie.  you aren't a bust if you don't produce like Ezekiel Elliot or DeShaun Watson out of the gate. More goes into it than just the individual rookie.  Generally when rookies are out there destroying people it is because they are put into great scenarios to succeed and not bad ones.

My fear is that he plays a position that the average player lasts about 5 years AND hes undersized. RBs should be able to produce immediately.

more moving parts to it.  OL play is a huge variable for RB play.  We have virtually no run blocking.  Fournette wouldn't be having the season he is having in Jacks here.  More than Fournette is involved in why he goes forward.

Watson is leading the NFL in TDs.....because he plays in Hou.  In Cleveland he wouldn't be.  Watson would still have the same talent.

i'm a big CMC fan and i liked the comparison you just gave until i remembered that dwill missed a few games during that span with a high ankle sprain. then i looked at his game log to see what all he did and aside from one target and reception his first game, he didn't do anything.

still, dwill was hit or miss...just like everything else that season. by the time the season ended we had poo on the OL aside from gross. we still had evan mathis (who didn't do crap until he got to philly after being cut by us and miami) and we were down to hangartner at center...that line was just in shambles.

an interesting thing about williams production, he had several games where he just lit it up and several that he didn't do much of anything.

i mean look at this:

week 2: 13 carries, 74 yards, 1 TD, 7 targets, 5 receptions, 24 yards

week 3: 4 carries, -1 yards, no TDs, no targets or receptions.

week 4: 8 carries 62 yards, 0 TDs, 1 target and reception for 9 yards

week 5: 1 carry. 4 yards, no TDs, no targets

misses 3 weeks with ankle sprain

week 9: 7 carries, 19 yards (2.71ypa), 1 target and reception for 11 yards

then he has 3 pretty incredible games that i think deshaun watson missed.

i guess the point, especially your point, is that even 8 or 9 weeks into the season we really didn't know what we had, although in week 2 we had a pretty good idea that he was capable of doing some good things (although that game hurt...vikings kicker threw a TD and then we tried getting fancy with a chris gamble punt return  that pretty much blew up in our faces).

we've seen that CMC can do incredible things in the passing game. the guy is 3rd in the league for receptions for any position and he's 2nd in the league for YAC (which was something that we have been missing over the years).

as a ball carrier RB, he just hasn't given us much but tbh, neither has stewart. rhythm is important and we have two problems with what we've done with CMC in that capacity. 1) we've been running him like stewart...which he isn't. 2) he's been getting scarce opportunities to run. no chance to get into any kind of rhythm at all.

of course there's the issue with getting tackled too easily, but oh well....i think the game will slow down for him at some point. hopefully stewart doesn't go down, but if he does then we might see more opportunities for CMC to get his stride.

i don't know, but i do know that despite him not being what i thought he'd be carrying the ball yet, i'm just going to hang tight and see.

How you figure a RB should produce immediately when some players are drafted. Vic Beasley on Falcons when he was a rookie in his first year he sucked but look at him now he is a player you have to watch your back with now. Not all rookies drafted will do good in first year on first NFL team.
