Please tell me this play is not designed for Matt Kalil to block a OLB. Please tell me this is not the case. No one in their right mind would think Matt Kalil is shifty enough to get to a OLB.  But the way that Kalil pursues him... it makes me wonder.

CMC should have hit Stewart on the wheel route. Why didn't he just check down?

In all seriousness, first Kalil whiffs on the block and then just flattens his path out, coasting toward the sideline. I don't get it.

That blocking assignment works if the DE isn't so far outside. I can't tell if the DE is set up as a wide 9 or not, but being so far outside, Kalil's assignment is almost impossible. You wonder if CMC was "too fast" on that play...

It's designed to work off defenses keying on what we do. The pull action that sucked David and 43 down in the box was also supposed to get the DE to crash down allowing Kalil and Stewart to get to the second level.   However if the people we are playing ar disciplined "which they were", and stayed on their keys, the the following results happen. 

I think playing against our defense sometimes hurts us, because other defenses don' t react that fast.  Thus plays that may work against us, don't work against others.  However I don't know if we have the talent to be a power football team.  Especially since teams are back to playing the standard cover 3 with 8 in the box against us and we can't beat it.

This play wasn't going anywhere if srew was suppose to be blocking he sure was alot further up...like he is looking for the ball.

Teams like the Patriots design plays to their players strengths.

Shula designs plays seemingly by rolling a 12 sided dice and seeing what comes up.

Anyone notice this is either miscommunication or a called QB buck sweep.

 

We have two guards pulling away from the action from the run play.  

 

Now, if you want to talk about complicated or too complex or getting too cute. Here is that example.
