"No one can cover Christian McCaffrey 1 on 1"

I HIGHLY doubt we take a cb in the first. I honestly don't understand why people are mocking a cb to the panthers in the first two rounds. The panthers already invested a second and a third in two cbs last year but all what everyone seems to remember is them getting burned for over 300-400yds a game in the beginning of the season. What people seem to have forgotten is that james bradberry played at a very high level second half of the season. He was the top rated rookie cb by pff at the end of the season, higher than jalen ramsey who was taken in the top 5. Bradberry was also the only rookie to make it into the top 25 cbs of 2016. Daryl worley also showed promise as the second cb and was ranked 12th in run stopping. They both showed they can be average-above average starters for this team. Then we signed captain munnerlyn (who was ranked just behind bradberry in the top 25 cbs of 2016) to play the slot and i dont think cb is even a need for us. We can definitely pick a cb in the later rounds as this is a deep class but i dont see them going for a cb above the 4th. DE is a much more pressing need. And if we were to say, we're drafting BPA and not based on needs, taking into consideration lattimores injury and surgery, his stock takes a hit.

Bradberry did well down the stretch. He's shaping up to be a good zone CB in the mold of maybe a stiffer Chris Gamble. Worley did not stand out and looked like a JAG. We might have an opportunity to replace a serviceable non-playmaker with a shutdown CB in Lattimore. That kind of speed and ball hawk ability is critical for slowing down high powered offenses. Gettleman doesn't mind about snapping up a DT when he's already invested in DT, and he wouldn't care about grabbing another CB assuming he likes Lattimore.

Yes Captain is our stop gap for the slot. That's not stopping us from taking Lattimore assuming Getti likes him of course.

DE is a bigger need, but the draft does not yield an elite DE at 8. It might offer the best CB in the draft. A shutdown CB. An immediate starter and playmaker day 1.

"Our defense does not require a shut down corner. Our corners mainly play cover 3 and always get safety help over the top so having a shut down corner is not a priority. And Derrek barnett is a good de. I would say julius peppers is a stop gap because he signed a mere 1 yr deal. Hes gone after this year. Cap on the other hand is here for 4 years assuming he stays but I wouldn't call him a stop gap. Our corners are fine. Especially knowing lattimore is plagued with so many injuries. If he had no injury history, id see an argument in taking him. But i dont see that. No point in risking taking a top 10 player who might not even play in half the games. And those injuries take a toll. His production will be affected if he continues to have surgeries. And a BIG reason why gettleman took butler was because star and kk were nearing the end of their deals. Butler was drafted incase star or kk leave, we have a good hog molly ready to roll. We managed to sign kk but i doubt we sign star. We have a cheaper option in butler so i doubt we offer star a legitimate contract. Also, of we must take a flyer on a cb with injury concerns, id much rather give up a 2nd for sidney jones."

The safety was coming downhill hard and had that outside run shut down. His best bet was to cut inside but the safety made a good play and guessed right. If you run that play again, he may guess wrong as to which way CMC is going to shake.

Sometimes...the other guy makes a good play. As of now, he can't run between the tackles because no one can run between the tackles.

I like McCaffrey's game and he will improve.  Even now he has gotten some big first downs for us this year.  If we can keep giving him touches and hopeful get him in the open field he will do some damage.  Same goes for Samuel.  I am no where near calling either a bust this soon.  CMC is projected to catch near 100 passes this season.  People are being unrealistic if that isnt good enough in year 1.

People keep mentioning his total yardage, but they fail to realize that's on 99 touches. 495 yards....99 touches. We're force feeding him. That kinda deflates all the "on pace for 1,000 total yards!!!" arguments. Especially when you remember all the hand wringing here about how we were force feeding KB.

I've been worried ever since the end of the preseason...  it's weird.  He made yards out of nothing during the preseason.  He looked quick, explosive, and elusive.  Week 1, that all ended.  Initially, I thought maybe it was just some rookie mental adjustment needed...  but, it became painfully clear, no...  It is a physical AND mental issue, but mostly physical.  He can't elude defenders and once they get their hands on him, he's down.  Then mentally, it appears he started overthinking it as a result of his lack of success and then i started noticing him running into contact instead of running away from it...  he would have a whole side of the field open for a punt return and one man to beat and he would run straight into that one man.  It's pretty painful to watch.

Oh well, Gettleman blows another first rounder...

Lol funny coming from IGO, same guy that was on his balls in preseason. I was down on him in the draft as a 3 down back, but I think he is a solid peace that will fit with us going forward we just need the run game to get better. Once it picks up the whole offense opens up. He needs to add on about 10lbs of muscle and get more reps. Typical rookie, not outstanding, not terrible just an above average contributor. Hands are great though. I wanna see him in the slot more hovering in the middle of the field.

Its probably the fact that NFL defenders are just much better athletes than the dudes CMAC faced in the pac12. That and also stanfords oline and run blocking scheme is incredible and there's no coincidence that Bryce Love is immediately doing just as well if not better than McCaffrey just a season afterwards.

Even in his college tape, he didn't look that fast. His inability to break tackles should have been a gigantic red flag NFL wise, there's just too many above average defenders in the NFL who are pretty close to McCaffrey in speed but problem is they weigh 50lbs or more than him, they can drag him down with their pinky fingers.
