"No one can cover Christian McCaffrey 1 on 1"

Before the combine Fournette, Cook and Kamara were the top 3 backs on almost every mock and big board

All of a sudden the underwear Olympics were enough to catapult Mccaffrey ahead of two guys that were clearly better than him.

If McCaffrey was in the saints offense he would be lighting the league up right now. And Dalvin cook had scary off the field issues, and now it looks like an injury history.

im sorry I will not label someone a bust or not worth a top ten pick after 8 games in a Shula offense where he’s on pace to reach 1k total yards.

Preface: I am a big CMC supporter.

But....

As of now he just does not look like a value whatsoever at pick 8 in the draft.

Example:

giphy.gif

This is as close to a 1 on 1 drill in the running game as you will ever get. The Bucs safety is playing man on CMC, motions with him the entire pre-snap.

CMC HAS to be able to get by his man and cut it to the outside where he has blockers. He only had to beat the safety.  If he did, it would have been the longest run so far for him, possibly a TD.

Unfortunately, CMC has rarely (if ever) been able to get past any first contact at all.

The 8th pick in the draft should be able to do this, without question. If the Panthers were looking for a receiving back who cannot get past anyone they already had one on the roster named Fozzy. So far, that draft pick is looking mighty suspect with such glaring weaknesses elsewhere on the roster.

I wasn’t a CMC supporter predraft, said it a bunch of times and got a lot of heat for saying you don’t spend a top 8 pick on a trick pony, you spend it on a thoroughbred.  NFL speed kills players like CMC, This was the main reason Reggie Bush never lived up to his hype coming out of college even though he was and still is the single greatest college player I’ve ever seen. Their game just doesn’t translate because of NFL speed, and a lot of people forget that.

I’ll support him now because he is a panther but y’all can’t say I didn’t warn y’all on this, the writing was on the wall, nobody bothered to read it.

Bullchit

Kamara is bigger, stronger, faster and can actually break tackles.  Kamara was always the better back. As for Cook he still has more rushing yards than Mccaffrey, that’s embarrassing.

1000 yards is nothing when your getting force fed. Trent Richardson had 1000 yards from scrimmage his rookie season

He hasn’t gotten force fed the ball since week 2.

and you’re telling me that Sean Payton wouldn’t know how to get Mac in the best possible situations on the field? Ya know like good coaches do? Bullshit. Kamara is a beast I’m not downplaying that. I just think Mac would flourish in that system as well.

And nice try throwing out bust players for your argument as if that means anything when the two are completely different players.

once again: 8 games in a Shula offense where he is on pace for a 1k season. Pump the breaks, unless you have an axe to grind then please continue wasting your life.

Most of us knew this

Give him to a different offensive scheme, an offensive head coach and a decent coordinator and probably a different story

OJ Howard far better choice given the reliance on TEs  in this system and Greg’s age

Shula and Rivera and Gettleman think they could  take this offensive group. Add a few pieces and viola it will work without changing the offensive lineman and letting our only speed receiver walk..then become defensive when questioned about why it does not work

it is mind boggling

simoly mind boggling for pros

And everytime Cam threw the ball 50 yds on third down for like 5 or 6 plays CMC was wide open for first downs. But I guess u don't show those. There has to be blame on other coaches for not using him right. Not all his fault.

I'm not happy with what I'm seeing from CMC so far, but he's far from a bust at this point.

I'm also not happy with what I'm seeing from a single offensive player so far...and that's a phase that has multiple 1st and 2nd round picks, in addition to an NFL MVP.

The entire offense looks disjointed.

10 catches for 54 yards isn’t be force fed?

Would he be better in NO? Of course, would he better than Kamara ? Hell no, Kamara is a better version of Mccaffrey

BTW he’s not on pace for 1000 yards, and take away the one game where he got 100 garbage time yards and his yard per game go way down.

To be fair, he's a rookie and the game hasn't slowed down for him yet as a running back. It doesn't help that most of the time, he's just trying to survive behind the line of scrimmage.  On the positive side, he's doing really well catching the ball when targeted.

Give it time, he's contributing as a starter which is what is wanted out of a 1st rounder.  Even top 10 picks are never guaranteed and I am still glad to have him.
