I believe has caught all the passes he should have caught. You are asking him to make the difficult catches which I would agree he hasn’t. Which is why I said they look solid. When he’s open it’s not like he’s dropping passes... he makes the open catches, slants comebacks he’s been money on those.

He sure has: https://streamable.com/y54zr

Both have shown flashes and out of the gate CMC no doubt was a more pro ready player.  Hopefully Samuel is getting comfortable with the plays and speed of the NFL and will be an impact player in the 2nd half of the season.

On another note, it blows my mind how folks here can give CMC a hard time when he's on track to go over a 1,000 yards his rookie year.

Samuel has one good play and one bad right now. It’s a wash. Until he starts catching some deep passes I don’t really care.

CMC uses the same move over and over again. I think if he tried more of a variety of cuts, he’d start making guys miss more.

CMC is a good football player. Maybe top 10 was to high but he shows 1st round talent. His movement is incredible and many times all he needs is a block or a better pass so he can keep moving.

agreed 1st round talent but the 8th pick in the draft is so much more valuable then the 2Xth. Could've easily traded down for him, picked up another 2nd and drafted another Olineman

CMC is much more polished but I think Samuel may have the higher ceiling.

Yeah, that fumbled pitch was atrocious but at least he learned from it. On a ball he caught across the middle yesterday he sucked that thing in and held onto it like his very life depended on it. Every player will have an occasional unexplainably bad play. Just last night Golden Tate caught a deep ball for the Lions turned up field to run took two steps and just fumbled the ball with no one touching him. Turnover. He just laid there in disbelief because he couldn't believe that he just did that. But he did. poo happens. Just gotta learn from it.

The Brooklyn Blur aka Curtis Samuels vs CMC

Samuels and CMC basically did the same things in college; howbeit it in very different offenses. CMC had the luxury of running behind an excellent run blocking team. He hardly had to create for himself, instead he simply followed his blocks and ran to day-light. Now that he's in the NFL he has to not only adjust to the speed of the game, but the level of blocking as well. Once he realizes that he can't always follow his blockers and must allow his instincts to take over, he'll be a better running back. Right now the Panthers are asking CMC to do something he didn't have to do in college and that is "create for himself".

4 Things CMC has to learn to be a successful NFL RB.

1. Create for himself. The RB's objective is to run to daylight, not where daylight is suppose to be. As of week 8 CMC runs to where daylight is suppose to be, even when its not there. There are several examples where if CMC had of gone off script, he would have had  big runs; but he didn't do that.

2. Stay low. CMC has a habit of running high when he should be staying low and use his center of gravity to his advantage. Watch the tape and you will see several times where CMC is tackled around the shoulders. By staying low, defenders won't be able to locate him as quickly behind the Panthers huge O-linemen. This would also increase his chances of breaking arm tackles.

3. Change gears. Most good backs have several gears of speed they use to beat defenders. CMC is a one speed gun who runs a 4.4. Which means that he has the speed and quickness to change gears if he needed to. However as of today, he doesn't use it.

4. Learn to run North and South. In other words get up field as quickly as you can.

As for Samuels, like CMC he must get use to the physicality of the NFL, which takes a while for some players. However I can see that he is slowly getting over that.

Samuels would actually do better at RB than CMC because he's use to running plays where he's forced to create for himself. He also has the ability to adjust his speed while on the move.

If Shula were smart and creative he'd line CMC in the slot and Samuel outwide on the wide side of the field. This would force the defense to respect the speed of both Samuel and CMC and thereby play a FS over the top. That's 3 defenders vs 2 offensive players. If the Panthers exploit this, it forces the defense to use a LB or DE as additional help. If Benjamin is lined up wide on the other side, it forces the defense to play Man without the ability to spy the QB. This opens up the running game, gives the O-Line fewer people to block and consistently places the TE, FB, RB in one on one situations. Defenses would pay dearly if they blitz from CMC/Samuel side of the field or even if they committed to many players too that side of the field. Then by placing either CMC/Samuel in motion would quickly give away what the defense is trying to do. Even motioning Benjamin would cause problems for the defense as well. If Samuel is really a 4.3 guy (Which he is) and if CMC can't be covered in space, then this is a ocean of water for an Panthers offense that's been very dry this season.

CMC will be a solid player but I can't really see an Edelman comparison.  That dude is like Conor McGregor on the field.  Tough to bring down and tough as nails.  I can definitely see Welker though.  Both Samuel and McCaffrey will be be varying degrees of good I think, and with where the NFL is headed I think Samuel probably has a higher ceiling.

Yeah and that version of Edelmen you are comparing CMC to as the ultimate badass really didn’t emerge until 5 years into his career.

which kinda goes back to the point of over judging a dude just into his career.

CMCs hands are sick and he gets open almost every play.  He is an above average slot reciever and probably the best reciever on this team.  He just isnt an NFL RB and niether is Samuel.  I like what I have seen from Samuel(sans fumble) as well.  He does seem to have more speed, but CMC runs better routes and has much better hands

You're cherry picking.   I just see him as more of a Welker type of guy INMYOPINION. That's got a little bit to do with skill but more to do with personality.
